Hi Everyone, So I've decided to dust off my PSP and start using it again. However, it seems I've been out of touch as to what the best firmware is to use for it, or for that matter, the current state of affairs for the PSP. After some quick searching on Google, it seems there are loads of firmware out there, and I'm not sure which ones are more "Experimental" / "Hacks" and which ones are stable. Does anyone know what firmware is considered the best to use in this case? Since I previously hacked my PSP for programming and homebrew, it should be easy enough to update I think. I guess I'll probably want to take a fresh NAND dump before I start poking around however.
Define the "latest" CFW. Anyone who makes a fork of the official firmware can call what they have CFW. I know the M33 branch started by Dark Alex was a popular firmware back in the day, but he's retired. I'm not sure if anyone else has made a more complete, stable, or functioning branch of firmware outside of him. But then again, that was a long while ago. No idea about the situation now.
Kinda depends on your model, personally I'm currently using 5.00 m33-6 that has had prometheus-4 applied to it. It runs all the games I try to play, and homebrew, so I'm happy with it. I haven't tried any of the 6.XX ones, though I read the latest prometheus ones have a new faster MS access mode that is apparently faster the the old 'fatmsmod' speed edit: on a gen 1 psp
Im on a psp2000 and I still use CFW 3.X m33 it works for Ps1 and homebrew so I havent bothered upgrading I might eventually .
If you have a 1000 and you want to emulate shit/most hackable then use something like 5.50 Prometheus/gen If you have a 3000 use something like 6.20 TN Permanent Have never had a 2000 so Couldn't tell you about that
Using 5.50 GEN-D3 in my PSP 1000. Easier to get working than 5.00 M33. In the spanish elotrolado.net forums there is an automatic installer if you have another CFW in your PSP. It creates the files for the MemoryStick ready to load in the PSP. Here elotrolado.net post. And the google translation.
I recommend this if you cherish homebrew. If not you can update to 6.39 ME-6, so you don't have to patch ISOs and can access PSN.
I use 6.39ME-6 ! I works great for Homebrew and emulators ! It is the best IMHO , because it also have access to PSN PS: there is two versione a FULL INSTALLABLE CFW (for PSP 1000/2000) and a LITE VERSIONE (for PSP 2000 datacode 8c and all PSP 3000) !
Ya, I'd want one for emulation, homebrew, or development, not piracy. The only benefit to having those auto-patching ISO deals is if I buy a new title and want to use it on Memory stick to improve battery life.
if you have a psp 1000 upgrade to 6.39, then load 6.39 pro-b7 then permenant patch it with cpl flasher
yeah I heard good things about pro-b7, believe that is the version that includes the MS speed boost too. Might check it out, guess I can always downgrade back with pandora batt anyway
I'm pretty happy with the 5.00 m33-6 with prometheus-4 installed, removes the need to patch up your isos another thing to consider is the nodrm engine is built into the newer fws i believe I don't think popsloader works with the latest CFW from what im gathering tho? Guess its never been made to work with 6.XX fw, thats kind of a bummer since some psx games need popsloader to work properly
heres the updater I used, it was kinda hard to find when I was looking around (for adding prom-4 to 5.00 m33) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DW83IYLP
