Hey Guys. I watch a lot of video on my PSP, and have noticed a rather anoying blur going on when the screen displays absoulute black... thinking about it, i noticed it in Ridge Racer, but thought it was a intended blur effect. my screen is made by SHARP, which is aparently the better of the two... anyone else noticed this? or does my screen have a fault?
Not all TFT screen blur you know. Well they do but not as bad as the PSP screen. TFT's have different refresh rates. My Mitsubishi TFT has the fastest refresh rate available to date. It does have blur but you'd be very hard pressed to find it unless you look very carefully. This monitor was expensive as hell though which is why the blur is so slight. The PSP and DS are not going to have such expensive screens with fast refresh rates in them however. Unfortunetly for the PSP the screen is that big that it makes seeing the blur much easier than the DS's screens. Yakumo
I dont even notice it tbh. Mind u i dont notice it on my monitor. If you wanna check the refresh on that its a samsung syncMaster 171P
I have a 7in Panasonic TFT in my car that i use for PS2 and DVD and i have'nt ever noticed any type of blurring, so im with Yak, its got a low refreash rate. You have to think i paid twice as much for my monitor than you paid for your PSP, sony couldnt afford to put TOL screens on a product they sell for $250
The screen on the PSP is great. TFT blurs movement more than CRT. You don't notice it films or games, only really when it's white against black movment. My TFT has a 8ms response time - maybe the fastest you can buy and it still blurs. Nothing you can do, it's not a great technology.
hmmm. intresting stuff. like i said, i only totice the problem really when it hits absolute black... perhaps game developers will learn to avoid using pure black in games, just like they avoid pure white for games and TV broadcasts (it burns into standard TV's too much) i might sugest it to they dude who made iPSP... im sure it would not be too much of a problem to replace it when encoding video. )
good call... im looking forward to my copy of wipeout turning up tomrrow... ...also getting Metal Gear AC!D, which looks to be pretty dark.. but wont be moving very fast, so doupt ill notice the blur crap
Now there`s a thought Perhaps someone could dump it on a Memory Car Duo if big enough one existed :smt023
Viewsonic is coming out with an LCD w/ a 4ms response time, which equals very, very minimal (if any) blur, even when playing Quake , Unreal Tournament etc. Hopefully Sony will "upgrade" the screens as the system's life progresses. I, for one, would be willing to pay $250 for just a system (w/o all the crap extras) in return for a better screen.
:smt082 I was thinking that my self. In that case the Game Axe has the best Anti Aliazing ever :smt082 Yakumo
Depends on the screen response. For the size and battery life, the PSP screen is amazing and a little motion blur is livable.
