http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20061106/sheffield_05.shtml impressive, i tought sony to ask for far more... think about it at MAX 5$ share your impressions.
After the PSP lackluster performance and the endless parade of PS3 issues, I think this announcement is the first good news coming from sony in the past year and a half. I think they know games that are 10 years old and more cant be sold for more than that, and that this may be the last hope for the PSP to beat the DS to the ground, so they cant go abuse the consumer anymore. Anyway, this is a smart choice, much better than ninty trying to sell N64 games on the Wii at 15 bucks. They are either blind-hyped or just stupid...
This is a price at which I will consider buying a game, not the ridiculous 15$ Nintendo asks. Hopefully this will ''inspire'' Nintendo to some more realistic prices..
The N64 uber failure and the criticism against the DC's lack of DVD didnt inspire them to stop using shitty propietary formats with low storage capacity in the GC. As long as the Wii doesnt flops before 2008 they wont change the download prices...
$5 is a really good price, because we all know thats tons cheaper than most of the used PSX games go for on Ebay. Speaking of Ebay, I wonder how much this would damage or decrease the price of PSX game sales there? I wonder if Valkyrie Profile or one of their other ports would be on that list?
i would happy just with saga frontier, legend of mana and final fantasy tactics ok, maybe suikoden too but paying 15$ for a virtual N64 game...... also you'll ba able to play those games both on the psp and ps3...
Back in the day , Nintendo's reason for expensive games would have been the expensive medium. it's time for them (Nintendo) to learn a lesson in time before they fuck up again.
Why would they? they made a killing with both the GBC and GBA, two obsolete portables, and now they relaunch the NGC with the Wii, and every gamer out there is on the edge of a hype attack, even when they are paying two and a half times the price of a 5 year old hardware. In my opinion, the high prices at virtual console is the lesser of the new nintendo fuck ups...
Numbers. If something is dirt cheap more people will eventually buy it, and actually make more profit than risking to have a high price and less customers. eg. Expensive car manufacturers like Lamborghini ran out of business and were bought by companies like VolksWagen , who produced cheap, massly produced crap, and the Golf.
I dont see where "dirt cheap" fits in the Wii $250 price. If thats cheap, then the Core X360 at $299 is what? free? If we stick to the Lamborghini-VW scenario, then the X360 and PS3 should be $5000 each at least. You dont see a Golf going at almost the same price than a Murcielago, like the Wii does with the X360. Every generation of GB won becos there wasnt a decent competition (even today) and the Wii is just a NGC in a new box, like the PStwo is a PS2, the difference being that ninty actually wants you to think the Wii is part of the nextgen. They could just release the Wiimote with the sensorbar being connected to one of the the NGC serial ports. The wii is the first "recycled" console ever, and its even more expensive than what the original ever was. Honestly I wonder how bad the reaction would have been if any other brand dare to make the same nintendo did. After all, the fanboy's RDF does help more than ads and PR....
nintendo is supposively known for "innovation" (aka alternative business decisions in an effort to reduce capital overhead) so people would only react positively if good old "weird" nintendo did it
Atari tried it with the 2600. I'm sure there are similar examples, but none of them succeeded. I think Nintendo will struggle, but it's not the first time that the technically inferior product has won. smf
