PSP GO Micro SD Card Mod

This is a mod I had been planning on for a while, but as I'm going on vacation soon I decided to get on it.

The work in and of itself is rather simple if you know how to solder well. Below are some pictures, and proof of the mod working with a 128gb micro sd card. I'll also like to a site where someone has done the mod and provided an extremely helpful picture for pinouts on the sd card adapter to psp go pcb.

All you need outside of soldering skills are a micro sd to memory stick pro duo adapter, small gauge wire, and preferably a clickly micro sd card slot.



I had originally thought about using the contact points on the top of the adapter pcb, but this made things too complicated. I was also disappointed to find the black glob on the adapter, this raised part made fitting it into the psp go a challenge. I recommend that if this is what you get, to just find another adapter.

Had to cut out some plastics inside the slot area.


Honestly here the clearnace for the card isnt as great as I wanted it to be. But it still functions fine if i loosen the screw holding the back plate on by a little bit.

So MS and SD shares the same functions, just different pinout and shape? Would this work in older PSP?

 

For the original PSPs you can just use get the adapter and pop it in, I use one in my slim 2000

Wonder when / if someone will try something similar for the Vita.

 

I was planning on trying it on one of my Vita's, I ran out of wire so I'm waiting for that to ship. I know someone is also making an adapter that replaces the 3g module with and internal sd card as well.

 

That's awesome. Hope this really happens. Vita memory cards are too expensive and i've read about issues with the 64GB ones.

 

Cool stuff, I hope that Vita project goes through. Switching between 16GBs is getting annoying on my end.

Hes also doing a v2 that handles the power draw on the pcie port.

 

I did this mod to my psp go a few years ago(wired installation and I hid the reader in a cavity near the thumbstick), though I didn't know we could use a 128gb cards. I wouldn't have tried this back then since the cards were like $200, but now I'm curious.
