Yep. Quite pathedic but who knows. The game could potential sell well this week since the PSP slim does not launch in japan till tomorrow (20th). I'm still shocked 90k people bought a psp (60k were probably the ff7cc bundle which is a slim psp).

Well there are a lot more DS' in Japan, so a bigger audience for the game. You'd expect a popular DS franchise to eclipse even the biggest PSP release right now.

4 times the number of PSPs or something!

    Nintenduh's finished.

Heck yes, way to keep the PSP down.

I still dig that the PSP has been more successful than any other non-Nintendo handheld to date. :3

Pokemon normally sells well regardless of how bad it is.

Still nice to see the PSP outselling the DSL

well pokemon is an RPG, and a good one at that. the new FF might not appeal to the usual RGP-loving japanese gamer.

Actualy the numbers were somewhat rigged. FF7CC is the best selling game for the week. This one insted added up both pokemon games released last week.

Those are great numbers for a PSP game, considering the DS/PSP ratio as Taucias said. The Pokemon franchise is one of the big ones too, it's not like FFVII CC had lost the nº1 to some kind of lesser known game.

I F*ing hate Pokemon  No I really do. Every day I see that sick yellow cute face looking at me from somewhere.

Another thing I hate (yeah, rant time) is that they always release two versions of the same bloody game but with minor differences! WHY?? Are you expected to buy both versions?

Someone got out of bed the wrong side this morning. Nothing wrong with Pikachu to brighten your morning.

The reason why they release two versions is so that children can get certain monsters on one and not the other and then swap them with each other. Inspired piece of thinking and marketing. Still at least Sqauresoft Enix aren't doing it, they just rehash the same game again for a slightly different platform.

the GBC pokemons were pure marketing. There was practicaly nothing majorly different between all of them. The only exceptions being the pokemon yellow having pikachu fallowing you around everywhere.

Surely you mean the sold more copies then Final Fantasy does Pocket Monsters on the original Gameboy. :) 4 Different versions and all basically the same. Genius.

No matter how much Pokemon Staff improved graphics and other stuff, the gameplay is the classic "if you played one, you played them all". With minor changes, every game looks exactly like the previous one, and they still get lots of sales!
In my opinion, the only reason why FF7CC didn't outsell Pokemon is because Pokemon is a lot more oriented to kids, and they are the ones who buy all that stuff (taking away the fact that you can sell them the same thing 100 times only changing it a couple of things :p )
