is there a list of all the games that were developed primarily for the PSP and then ported to the PS2? Examples such as Wipeout Pulse and Motorstorm: Arctic Edge come to mind. Is anyone out there even collecting these? Not sure how widely available these games are at the moment but I m guessing they're quite hard to come by?
Pretty common if they're released in your territory. Pulse is only somewhat "rare" to folks outside Europe. To folks in Europe it's no more rare than a trip to the shop. Off the top of my head the GTA games got ported as did the Ratchet and Clank game. -hl718
Off the top of my head Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters Secret Agent Clank Syphon Filter: *** (first one, i don't think LS was ported) Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories Shaun White Silent Hill 0 Motor Storm: Artic Edge Jak & Daxter: *** (most recent one) One could also get into listing multi plat games that the Wii/PSP/PS2 versions where the same game.
Thanks. Doing a bit of statistical observation here.. what's the average quality of the ports compared to the originals on the PSP? Is it really cheap/easy to port them to PS2, subbie? From what I know, Pulse was inferior on the PS2 compared to its portable sister.
As for Silent Hill, Syphon Filter and the GTA's, I thought they seemed way less impressive on the PS2 because there were no major changes in the technical aspect, if there were even any at all. It just looks better on a small screen this way. Neither played Wipeout nor any of the others though. Mentioned games were some of the first PSP->PS2 ports, maybe they gained some experience on this method.
A majority are inferior with some being on par. Many have multiplayer stripped out or limited. Like for instance motorstorm on PSP has online play where the PS2 only has split screen. It's not easy porting PSP games to PS2. It just helps that most companies have old PS2 engines lying around to use to port the game over.
WipEout Pulse suffered in the move from PSP to PS2, though I'd love to see a port of LittleBigPlanet because then I'd have no reason to own Sony's portable - even if the resulting game would be more than likely a scaled down port of an already considerably scaled down port from the PS3!
funny you should mention that, LBP started out as a PS2 project and initial demos were made on the PS2, where later Sackboy was created as well, as the model for the physics.
I always thought the original CraftWorld prototype was running on PC and controlled with a DualShock 2 that had been converted to have USB connectivity. If there really is a working PS2 version out there I may have to add this onto my list of wanted cancelled games... even though it's probably never going to leak, being such a high profile title with all the security Sony can offer to protect its IP.
I m not a huge LBP fan but that is what I recall reading at an interview, not long before the titles launch. Some googling might help you.
