    I got a psp 2001 (psp 2000) from someone for $20.
Opened it, and the fuse was blown. Bridged it , now I get an orange light.

I've never owned a psp before, so I have no cables yet.
Does it mean "charge me"?, or is it an error message?

I also took the battery and pandora modded it so that could be the
problem. I probably should have waited but I tried to unbrick it first
and then realized it was a power issue.

    so you hardmodded the battery?

if so youll need another battery for regular use ( saying your hardmodded battery works as a pandora one... )

honestly ive never heard of a fuse to be blown... or the need to bridge whatever :/ could you show me what you bridged so i know?

could you take a pic or better describe whats going on with said orange light?

also im curious if you know that the slim models are very picky when it comes to modding them... infact mid last year was when they rolled out the TA-088v3 mobo which is currently unhackable... so chances are you might not be able to pandora it.

anyway i hope i can help out with your problems. ill try my best :)

Where the power connector meets the board, there's a bank of components. by the wifi connector. The top most one was gone, like blown off. I touched it with a screwdriver and got the orange light.

I have to get a power brick and see if it's still working.

PSP can't charge off it's usb can it? I saw no reaction to usb plug.

it can ( the 2000's ) but you need to be in usb mode ( which requires you to turn on the psp... ) so its useless to you for now...

im sorry if this will inconvenence you... but could you take a picture of that? ( im still not getting a clear picture...but atleast i know where you are at! )

although it sounds like you a redirecting the power from the battery into the plug :/ ( why their would be a orange light.. orange light in most cases means its charging )

the psp has to be up and running for USB charge to work.

The common use of orange light is "charging" so maybe shorting the fuse makes it think it's plugged to external power source.

as PSPdemon stated, you do need a normal battery with the pandora.
Only use for it is to go to service mode so it won't boot the PSP to normal mode or charge until the psp is running.

It probably thinks its charging. It only goes orange when its charging. When fully charged and off it does not light up. Regular use it's green.

Indeed, the orange light is the charging light. What model board is it? The model number will be of the format TA-0XX, XX being a couple of numbers.

I've not come across the problem you're having much.. but when I have, it's tended to be either water-damage shorts across the ribbon cable connector, damage to the power switch board, or a problem on IC6001 (located on the rear side of the board as you look at it -actually side A).

As the other guys said, any chance of some piccies?

doh, just realised that you've got a 2000 series. They can be a bit trickier :s

    It's a TA-085 I believe. I'll open it again when I get home.

can you tell us what kind of psp it is? ( like what kind of pack )

core? daxter? starwars?... even the God of War and Simpson models? ( but those 2 i believe are TA-088v1/2... could be wrong )

the dax and starwars ones are pretty much guaranteed TA-085v1's

cores are a bit more trickier, but we will see in time to come

just as a note: TA-088v3's didnt roll out till about mid last year... i dont know if this is a acual way but im guessing you can check the cpu for the date it was manufactured and compare that to the time the TA-088v3 was released... in a sense that SHOULD work ( cant verify though... only have one slim :/ )

The problem is you can't use a PSP with a pandora battery for anything else other than flashing it. You put in the pandora battery, immediately the orange light comes on, that's it. Kev needs either a charger or a regular battery (preferably with a charger to charge it) before he can determine if anything is wrong with the PSP.

I can't find a single picture of the ta-085 mainboard on google besides this one.

There's a bank of components in the red box, and at the top was an empty space where it looked like a fuse had been. I touched it with the screwdriver and got power light (orange) so I bridged it.

I know in other boards the power fuse is right by the incoming power,
so I did it on a hunch.

I can take more pics later on today when I can open it.

Yup, thats a fair enough call. Of course, it's sods law that on this particular board the main fuse is on the other side! (side A) :)

You'll find it roughly opposite from where you've been looking, usually marked "TB". For the record, its an 0603 package 2.5A quickblow fuse.. should you want to use the correct replacement.

Oh, and the bit you bridged isn't actually populated, so worry not - you're not missing anything! :)
