This seems like the right place to post this...

Well I have followed many tutorials on the net on how to replace the PSP's LCD Screen and have.... sort of successfully accomplished it...
    So heres whats up...

I bought a Broken PSP off of one of my friends for $20. So what I basically did was Swap the screen from the PSP I bought out for my cracked one. During the swap though i snapped off one of the black clasps (Circled in Red in this picture) http://consolezombie.com/Images/PSPScreenTut/PSP_Screen_Cables1.jpg
Since the clasp was broken, I just tried to get the cable to stay in place in there. I closed the clasp on the other ribbon cable and everything seemed good to go. I put the screen in place and powered up the system to see if it was a success.

    WAHH! :crying:
Around 70% of the left side of the screen works crystal clear, while the right 30% is pure black. Can someone tell me what the problem is? Is the LCD screen defective? Or are one of the cables not in correctly? Please help if you can. :crying:

That little clip is for the backlight, if the screen is black, you have either not got the big ribbon lead connected properly, the lead is damaged, or the screen is broken.

If you can take a photo of the screen, it should be easy to rule out if it's cracked/faulty.

:crying: My guess is that the screen is damaged somehow as I have fiddled with the Big Ribbon more than I thought I would have to.

If you bought the broken one for 20 bucks how did you know the screen was good? Were you just guessing?

If Tachikoma is correct and the small ribbon is for backlight only then you do have a broken screen. (from what I can see in the pic the backlight is working)

I would say get another screen or test that screen in a diffrent PSP to see if it works. I hope you get it working. I know working on them can be a bitch...

Thanks Micjohvan. My friend sold me the broken one telling me that I could use the screen in it as a replacement. He told me that someone bricked their PSP and therefor didnt need it. So I went with buying it in hopes that the screen wasnt faulty... Looks like my hopes came crashing down, hahaha!... :crying:

Thanks, I hope I get it working too...

The small clip is for the backlight i know this because i broke the clip for mine off the board lol. Looks like you may have damaged the big ribbon cable when you were putting it in, sorry to hear it, i know how you feel lol

Yeah either screen or ribbon, most likely screen as it's such a clean cut-off.

Thanks for all your help guys! I guess my last question is where is a reliable place to buy a replacement screen? I have seen some on eBay...

There's quite a few mod-chip shops that sell spares, but after all the recent raids, I woulds just go through eBay and find a seller with decent feedback, especially recently.
