http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78357 I wonder if this is for God of War, or just a way to expand the graphical capabilities of the hardware? Perhaps there will be a slimline PSP announcement for E3?
You know, I find it odd that Generation of Chaos skips like crazy, yet Monster Hunter Freedom is really smoothe. Especially considering Generation of Chaos is sprite based, and Monster Hunter Freedom is a big 3d title. I would love for the update to fix the speeds on some of those games.
I think you can pull this off for quite a while already using the OE firmware with a custom PRX... can't remember the exact details, but I think it's possible.
OE firmwares do it without any additional PRX's. Same with devhook....should you feel the need to stay in the past
Some developers are just shoddier at developing I guess... also could've been deadline restraints for GoC that kept it from running better.
You could pull this off for a long time (dating all the way back to Devhook). The difference between that and this news means developers can push their games farther because everybody will be running it at 333Mhz and not some who hacked their psp. Already God of War PSP team has confirmed their game will take advantage of the full cpu clock speed.
Old news if your on OE firmware we have been using full speed for a while now but I guess if you don't wanna mod your psp this might be the update for you.
Again read my post. This has zero to do with old games on the market (you cant modify their clock speed on the new firmware). This update is only so developers can make their comercial releases run at 333mhz and not 222mhz. The extra boost lets them do more things in their game (more objects, better physics, ...) Not sure why nobody is understanding this (your not the first).
Battery Life plain and simple. Even at it's current speed it was mocked for having short battery life. Yet thanks to the likes of OE and Ps1 games (which also run at 333mhz), The market is proving they would prefer the shorter battery life to get more power. I also think a new psp model is comming this year.
Plus now there are batteries that last longer available. I thought the new PSP rumour was squashed, I don't how see a redesign would be of much value the PSP is already pretty packed up? It's a lot of hassle for a commercially under performib platform. I think the speed unlock is a good move towards better quality titles. Sabre
A new PSP model is needed since the market heavly exspects one. Alot of people are holding off buying a psp since they exspect a new model around the corner. Plus look no further then DS which saw it's sales pick up tremendusly once they finaly came out with a sleeker DSL. In terms of sony squashing the rumors, Meh its just typical PR to denie things untill it's ready to be anounced. All things point to a new model being shown at E3. If nothing is shown then there wont be a new model this year. Yet my money is on there being one plus an LE version for the release of FF7CC in early september.
The case of the DS is very different the first version looked really crap so there was a need for new sleek model. The PSP looked good from day one. And also the DS had more appeal in terms of gameplay than PSP, explaining rising sales. I think everybody is holding off buying a PSP 'cause of the lack AAA titles, well this is changing MGS is a good example. But we'll see you maybe right, PR surely won't want to ruin the show for E3. The reason they are redesigning it is that they can reduce the costs of the system and thus the retail price. Screen technology has improved and battery life can be expanded. If they could get the price down to match the DS, or even be cheaper, then more PSPs will likely be sold. A new model will also create more of a buzz and enables Sony to remarket the machine. Since the PS3 firmware updates are adding more and more features when combined with the PSP I guess Sony are hoping that they can make the PSP an essential purchase to accompany the PS3.
I would disagree. DS & PSP sales were neck and neck in the USA till the release of DSL. Sure the astetics (sp?) on the PSP were solid from day one, there still is a large complaint over the system not being more pocket friendly, stiff buttons, overly sensitive analog, and it's high battery consumption. A redesign PSP model would probably correct some of thies issues that hold people back from a PSP unit. I would disagree since by general Average ratings, PSP games rate higher then DS games. Second PSP has had more 9.0 rated games then the DS (last I checked). PSP has had it's AAA games but the DS on the other hand has had it' "Mario"/"Pokemon" games which people buy into in droves. I think God of War PSP will sell well to the older gaming croud but I dont think it will be the fable "AAA" everybody claims the PSP needs. What I do think will make a huge shift in the PSP market (in japan) is the release of FF7CC this september. If sony plays it's cards right they could see big sales off the bat. The only big mover for the PSP in japan has been Monster Hunter 2 which sold well over 1 million copies in the first month.
That's because the DS is the most popular of the two, so crap dev with crap budget and crap games go for DS, of course. The average n64 games is rated higher than the average of psx ones, doesn't mean the psx is a worse console for good games.
