With the days counting down to PSP here in the USA, I have not seen a lot of reaction to it in Japan or the UK other then game mag hype.

For all you folks in Japan and the UK that have the PSP or even just more media awareness of it , is it all it claims to be? Has the excitement cooled off a bit for it?

It's not out here in UK till May apparently so I imported one from Japan just before Xmas, and NOBODY knows what it is when they see me on it. There are no adverts for it in papers or magazines and even computer game shops don't have anything in their windows yet!!!

Although hardcore gamers know what it is over here.

haha i was in the tube the other day reading the metro(london newspaper) and a quote from gamesmaster magazine about the ds and psp. "the ds is selling better in japan then the psp. The DS is also doing better in AMERICA then the PSP!" Well you would hope seeing as its not out yet!!!...

they then moved on to talk about the xbox 2 saying somethng along the lines of " bla bla from microsoft was yesterday talking about the xbox 2 having high definition gfx. This is to try and counter HD tv...". I hate the papers!

Anyways yeah alot of people ask me what it is/how i got it when im on the tube. I went to a sony market research thing that im almost 90% sure was about adverts for sony/psp and they got very interested in me once i took mine out.

I have one. Trust me, pictures of its games do the system no justice. When you see stuff running on a unit in person you will be blown away and asking wtf is nintendo so far behind it's not funny.

I am suprised by the lack of solid advertisement but as it stands, most game stores are sold out on preorders for the system.

Also in terms of japan, nintendo go a 1 up by having enough units to go around at launch for the ds. Sony struggled heavly to meet demand and as a result created a huge gap in selling numbers (systems are about 1m apart). Yet even with that ever since the start of this year sony psp has outsold the ds on a weekly basis every single week. :)

I missed out on the preorder rush so if I picked up a Jpn unit are there any region issues?

subbie it seems to have a nice size screen and this is the one thing that sold me the most, I like the DS alot but with my bad eyes Sony seems the way to go, are you pleased with the screen size and is it as big as it looks?

No region restrictions on games but I think there will be region issues on UMD movies you buy.

I say hit up Wal-mart on launch day. There should be enough units for walk in at some stores. Sony is targeting 1 million units for march launch.

Psp was worth every pretty penny i put into it.

  9. Heard the greatest thing in the local Game Crazy today - the store clerk was telling a customer, "The PSP is going to have like 120 games out within a month of it's release! The DS has been out since November, and look at what they have out," *points to pathetic DS section with about half of the current US releases*. I was going to say something about the PSP's time of release in Japan and its current catalogue of games, but that sort of ignorance in salespeople is hard to break with reason alone, so I paid for my Super R-Type and left. Lost a bit of respect for that location though.

Hehe, yeah most game stores around here have the same knowledge or mis-knowledge.

I agree with subbie, if you go to the likes of TRU, Walmart or Best Buy you will definitely walk away with a PSP.

When I first heard about this unit, I was not very excited. I figured it would be a shoddy Sony handheld, with no much to back up the hype. Well after seeing screen shoots and the launch lineup I have changed my mind. I'm still not a huge Sony fan, but I eagerly await this launch.

The only thing in any shops here in the UK is just pre-order A4 sheets...no date/price buggar all.

    No adverts either

Some pretty good DS ad`s though on TV!
