hmm... Other than trying to incite a flame war, what purpose did this topic achieve? Personally, I think the PSP will do just fine, as will the DS. Two different demographics really. But really, why don't we wait untill they are actually out to comment, hmm?
Yeh. But its better when someone predicts that it will fail and when it does, that person will go around say "I told you so. Nyah nyah." I like doing that. :smt043 But yeh. I can wait. Its just that I'm a bigger fan of Nintendo seeing as they are the last hope for this industry.
. I'm more inclined to PSP this time round. i do have GBA-SP as well as GC but PSP looks to be the one I will need. My concern is with that large screen area it'll be inevitable that it will get scratched. Has SONY thought about how to protect it? If I get PSP I will probably spend it to watch movie than game itself... Hope it will have movie player like the one for GBA-SP where you can convert DVD into a movie file and take with you on a trip... Much nicer than portable DVD player or notebook... cheers
This guy should spend less time criticizing others and fix his fucking bank! I'm definitely rooting for Nintendo, but I don't see how anybody can take anyone from a Japanese bank seriously these days.
Re: . Probably not... and they'll make it near-impossible to get new ones (PS2 lens, anybody?) :axe: (sorry, just some bitterness)
Anything like the PS2 If it's anything like the PS2 then you better put it in a bullet proof, cushioned case if you want it to survive... :smt043
Re: Anything like the PS2 LOL, funniest thing i've hear in a long time.... ps2 are badly build *i think everyone is aware of this*, my friend *a main stream gamer* has a ps2 :smt011 and he was bringing it down stairs, and he was almost @ the bottom and hes ps2 felt from like 2 feet and it didnt turn on anymore :smt017 but my precious gamecube is another story ^^ liek that video where is draged begind a car ^^, anyway.... i dont think psp will be that hot if the price is 350+, 350 maybe....... but more than that.... i dont think so :butthead: :axe: i dont think it will be possible, unless it has a 1 gig hd build in.... because i dont think sony will release blank media to burn..... just like nintendo...
Re: . Don't count on it blanc media won't be for sale because sony doesn't want pirated divx etc on their own machine. You will propably need to buy the movies on those special discs the PSP uses or download movies in some special custom format via a payed service like I-tunes. Also don't count on normal mp3's playing on the machine but sony's own audio format (forgot the type, same as used on the minidisc) so you'll propably need to convert your entire mp3 collection or even worse only certified crap will run from it meaning you have to but the mp3's like via i-tunes. Sony will be verry verry carefull not to let illigal movies/mucis run on their machine because that's where the money is.
Re: . Good call.... sony are going to lock the machine down a fair bit.. ill bet it has all that check-in, checkout crap...but it will be intresting to see what happenes with the memory stick.. i asume thats where game saves are stored. I dont see why people are so quick to jump into one of these handheld's corners and fight for them so quickly... i dont see why people dont just buy both! that way you get the best of both worlds! oh, and their music format is ATRAC3 if i recall correctly. )
I havea few friends in the games industry plus my brother and all of them say that the PSP isn't a gaming machine. They say they will buy one if the price is good so that they can use it as a mobile movie player. But and yes another but, only if it allows open DiVX codecs like used on a PC. They all said that the DS would be a fine gaming machine but wished that Nintendo had put a little more effort into the systems power. It will be interesting but all I see the PSP being is the next NGage and going the way of the PSX in Japan. Simply because nobody knows f*ck all about the system. To me it just says PS2 in handheld form. Yakumo
Well, personally I would be bloody time that happened... they've pushed enough other companies out of their respective markets, would be good for them to face some adversity too :smt043
It depends on the price. PS2 sold like hotcakes to average joe blow b/c of that damned DVD player. If anyone was on the fence, that DVD did a good job of pushing them. If the demand for a mobile movie player is as high as DVD was a few years ago, it could swing sales in their favor. The chances of this are kinda low though.
Well the chances of selling it as aportable movie player are verry high if they would allow it to run divx and xvid encoded movies. But you can bet your sweet ass they wont as sony has their own movie companies. Best bet is they will make their own encoded movies and sell them on those custom disc
I'll have both if i can. The DS will be amazing if they use all those features, and the PSP has that sexy screen.
The guys at EGM would prefer an Atari Lynx to the DS as long as they are given enough money. Sad to say but it's true. EGM print more crap than anyother mag in the world or at least they did back in the 90's. Yakumo
I am not saying i agree with them, I was just pointing out that that is what they think. Almost every other source says that they like the DS better, and i have heard reports that developers are more excited about the DS than the PSP. For now we don't know and we will not know untill the systems have been released.
