Today I have received several pstools. I will add pictures as I can. The first unit to examin is DTL-T10000H Slight burned smell on inside, was sealed unopened. Boots ok, removed password. HDD lists no contents. PS2 side has no reaction. (no drive light) Board lists red light in tool and drive. Removal of HDD show two 30GB drives. IBM deskstar 30GB. More info to follow. I am wokring on this as I can as I have some asian illness brought home by a friend.
I have it disassembled down to the ps2 board, I can't see anything obvious like blown caps. Canything I shouldbe checking for? The dvd drive didn't work, so that might be a hint.
The Ps2 side isn't working I think, there's no light or apparent function to the dvd drive. I don't have the software tools yet, so I haven't done the whole diagnostic process. I tookit apart based on the burning smell alone...
You said that it booted ok and you removed the password, so the hdd are not empty, right? Once you're logged in, type /usr/local/sce/bin/dsedb
I'll try that once it's back together unclejun The others do have games. I will post pics... What I am seeing is red lights at the following LEDS TOOL DRIVE all the ones by the pcmcia I also see red ones under the power supply. The comman you showed me makes the box say "resetting" and halt. It then shut the system down? Login root shows no directories using LS
I believe I came accross an index for them somewhere - I'll have to have a look and get back to you though. Good job on getting a boxed one - I'm sure they weigh more than 16kg though
When you logged as root, you're in the /root directory, so go to / instead. The Tool shutdowns when you launch dsedb? That's not supposed to happen... The leds under the pcmcia all lit?
you can test to write pwd in the console when logged on to see in what dir you're in. also maybe test ls --all -l / to see if the root directory isn't missing anything?
No video out, no responce to dsedb (cannot establish connection) I can get to all of the folders now, it starts me in root and I have what looks like a full install however it's like the ps2 isn't even there. THE SCREEN IS JUST TO SHOW THE DIRECTORY STRUCTURE. I finally figured out how to run dsedb correctly. It will freeze soon as the program runs and shows the first line (resetting I believe) When loading normally, linux gives all kinds of errors about improperly dismounted files. It goes on for pages and pages of files. The other machine doesn't do that. All the lights under the pcmcia are red, and TOOL and DRIVE are red as well. There's no DVD drive power. Complete disassembly and reassembly did nothing. I've tried getting video out of the ps2 port with composite and rgb cables, no video. The second machine is a real mystery, it has some sort of software that requires a link to a host machine to run. I have to run the unit in "tool single" to get it to run, and then it says I don't have the required ethernet connection to run anything.. It can be manually with by line by line bootup, but it too has no video however only D616 is lit. It also calls itself "server" That machine has full games on it.. It's also a DTL-H10000H A, which I have never heard of.
On the first machine, during the linux boot, it loads the mrp driver, what does it say then, something like "can't connect/hardware not found" or no error message? All the leds (D601 to D616) are supposed to be lit, unless the dipswitch D7 (found on the DSW602 block under the pcmcia sub pcb) is set to 1, then the leds D601 to 608 are successively lit in order following the binary numbers and the video out displays grey bars... If the filesystem has errors, you should try with another hdd and one of the hdd dumps I made. What happen if you try dsidb instead of dsedb? And can you access the Tool web interface? For the second unit, where are the full games, on the primary hdd? And again, what messages are displayed bi the mrp driver during the linux boot?
Completely un-related post, but did anyone else think Assembler had a Wall-E sitting behind the Tool box? Sorry, just had to point that out...
