Anyone here knows if it is possible to have the linux kit on a modded (so it can have a hard disk) PStwo? Has anyone attempted/done it? EDIT: or a USB hard drive? (which I can't imagine how it would boot , considering that the IPL on the memory card doesnt look for a USB drive attached, or am I wrong?)
Considering the internal differances in the PSTwo versus the PS2, i would be surprised if the linux kit would even run on the slimline.
Whoa! Doesn't linux rest on the same abstraction layer on both PS2 and PStwo? If the games can run with the same compiler, so should the Linux Kit
The sad reality is, the slimline ps2 isn't able to run all PS2 games. I would imagine the linux kit would fall under that catagory. Granted i'm just guessing, because i've never run linux on anything other than a TOOL, which is a bit different then the retail linux kit anyway.
No official software can 'see' a HDD connected to a PStwo. Even if you do the mod, you still can't play FFXI or use the Linux kit. You have to have a mod-chip installed with HDloader or other appz to access the HDD on a slimline. I looked into this a few months after the release of the PStwo myself. Didn't get a very warm reception on the official PS2 Linux site (unsurprisingly) and I only found one other person interested. I'm sure it would be possible, but it'd probably mean a rewrite of the kernel.
