Has anyone used these? I was debating whether to get a PSTwo with the switch and Swap Magic or just buying an older PS2 and a fliptop case. I don't mind popping either open, but I want it to last for awhile, and I've heard different stories about PSTwo with the lid sensors being shoved down.

Edit: I forgot about the softmod. How well does that work for the Playstation 2?

A friend of mine is using Swap Magic 3.x with an older PS2, and has encountered no problems up to now.

No Idea about the newer models.
    Too expensive to test.

I just bought a newer one today (model number is in the "recent buys" thread). It's a nice little thing, I just hope that once Swap Magic arrives it will work. If not, then I guess I'll just have to be conservative with my TEST.

I used Swap Magic with an older PS2 with a flip-top case and it worked for most betas/protos/whatever you want to call them. There were a few that would hang on the loading screen for whatever reason, but it did the job. My advice to you is to use your TEST for whatever doesn't work with Swap Magic.

Note: I never tried it with imports, so I can't tell you how well they work.

  6. When I had a PS2, I had one of the fliptop cases and an older version of Swap Magic (2.something) and it worked like a dream with all my Japanese imports. Depending on the game, your mileage may vary, but I never found a game I couldn't boot.

Another option: get a USBExtreme disc (like the HDLoader, but this uses USB hard drives so it works on PStwo!), a USB HD enclosure (should be like $15), stick in a nice HD and use the PC to put games on it :)

Antipasta's advice is indeed the one to follow. But if you have CDRs or DVDRs and you don't want the ISOs, or you have less money than you need, I think the Swap Magic will work alright with your newer model PSTwo.

I need to get one of those myself, one of these days.

I was going to buy Swap Magic first and use it until I had enough to get another hard drive and USB Extreme. I was spoiled by loading my games on my Xbox hard drive, so I figured it would be an obvious choice :). Thanks guys.

Similar note, what can be used for import PS1 games on a PSTwo? I'm planning to put in one of the "magic Switches" and get a swap-magic, but I understand this can't be used for PS1 - is there another disk i can use in a similar manner?

  12. Swap Magic discs indeed only work on PS2 games. However, there are similar boot discs available for the Playstation - one I believe was called "PS-X-Change". Lik-Sang used to have a few different types, you might check there.

As far as I know, PS-X-Change only works on a PS1, whereas steadster wants to use it on his PSTwo. More power to him, as there's the Breaker Pro disc that does exactly that ;-)
