Hi, I have tried browsing the web for answers on the PSX hardware revision and i am unable to seek the answer i am looking for thus, I will like AG members to enlighten me.

I will be attempting to get a PSX off ebay or yahoo auction(JP), then i realised that 5000 and 7000 was release back in 2003/4 till the last *700 at 2005. Hard disk capacity remain at 160 and 250GB each. Looking at the 5000 series Wattage the first few variations are at 80W until the 5700 model which is at 70W. :concern:

Also unsure is that the most common issue with the psx is the laser or lens failure (Unable to read/detect disc), i understand that the 5000 model uses the sony 400C laser (same as the one in the 30001 series PS2) but does it uses the same laser in the 5700 model? And of cause the Hard disk bad sector and the poor ventilation of the unit are the main culprit in system failure (that explains the tons of PSX JUNK in yahoo auction (JP)).

As i present my finding and questions, I hope someone who could have multiple PSX unit with different model number (5000 Vs 5100 Vs 5500 Vs 5700) can do a check on the main board layout and lasers and perhaps enlighten us in this rare system.

    Regards
    Kyo (Singapore) :smile-new:
