I can't seem to find information on how to open this thing. I almost ended off peeling on the top layer of plastic that seems to be melded with the layer of plastic before it because it looked like the kind of place it'd clip together. I found out about removing the plastic things on the sides but even after removing the screws I could find it wasn't coming apart. Does anyone have any documentation or anything on how to open this?

These are the problems I'm having:

Discs are no longer being recognized. Before it'd take several attempts but once it saw the disc and started playing it was fine. I heard there are two lasers one for the DVR and one for the Game mode, I suspect the game mode laser is probably fine, but the DVR laser is preventing it from loading.

Also, I'm having issues with recording. The video is coming out all messed up every time I try to record something new. I'm a bit worried the HDD is failing but the shows that were on the PSX when I got it all work as they are supposed to, so I'm not sure what to think about that.

If I could get into the console I'm sure I could figure out more. While I haven't done any intense modding or anything, I've done some basic repairs that involve soldering, like replacing the video caps on my Game Gear, replacing a shot fuse on my Sega CD, and fixing a couple Genesis power jacks. I'm sure I could replace a laser assembly or something if I had to.

I totally appreciate it. I couldn't find any documentation online and I had given up until someone reminded me months later of how awesome everyone is around here.

The easy way out, would be to install FMCB for the PSX and just use it to boot your game discs directly.
This is one of the reasons why gaming is far more affordable on the long run, with a normal PlayStation 2 console.

Do your TV channels use NTSC for broadcasts? Only NTSC is supported.

I did consider free mcboot but I'd prefer to keep it original if possible. I don't speak a ton of Japanese so the kanji is a bit problematic at times when traversing the menus, but I understand enough to use it at stock for the most part. I definitely will if I have to though. It cost way too much to not be put to good use.

I do intend to use free mcboot on my fat PS2 with the Network Adapter and HDD. I picked those accessories up when I was first getting into some collecting a little over a year ago and still haven't bother to do it. So I figure I can play games on that primarily. It just feels bad that my PSX is sitting in my basement unused. I was in high school when the thing came out and I remember wishing I could own one.

I was connecting a Gamecube up to it (NTSC-U, probably over S-Video knowing me) tried playing some Melee through it while recording for the lulz. I haven't connected anything over coax or anything. I'm gonna work on it a bit after work so maybe I can try recording what it's doing and upload it to YouTube.

Thanks for your help thus far everyone.
