Did they really expect this system to be positioned upright like that? If so that seems very odd to me

 

I didn't observe any rubber stoppers on its back. But I guess it would explain why the back part of the console where you connect your cables to, is recessed. The LEDs on its top are also a bit too far back to see when you lie the console on its bottom.

 

Oftetimes second-hand PSX units are missing the rubber feet inserts located in the outside frames. You can indeed place the PSX unit as pictured as there is also a second IR receiver field for the remote control placed next to the status LEDs. I'd refrain from doing so however, since the only problem I ever encountered with my units occurred when I positioned them upright...
