I bought a PSX DESR 5000 off of Yahoo auctions. When I received it to would turn on but not ready any disks. I took it apart and took a look at the laser and gave it a quick cleaning. However, when I reassembled it it would no longer turn on but the fan was running. I examined it and it looked the ribbon cable had just gotten lose and fallen out. So I put it back in and now not even the fan turns on. I checked the fuse on the power board and it seems to not have blown. What could have happened to make it so that I don't get any power at all now? The ribbon cable for the power button on the laser seems pretty beat up. Would replacing that fix any of my problems? Thanks for the help!

They say a picture is worth more than a thousand words ...

Check the flat cable which goes from the front panel to the mainboard.

That is the cable that seems to be pretty gnarly. It won't stay attached either. It's constantly disconnecting from the front panel.

You likely broke the latch at the connector on the front panel circuit board. Make pictures.

I was a little rushed before work but I snapped some quick photos. I didn't get the front board cable picture but it looks exactly like the one in your picture. Right down to where that hole is. I have the screws that are missing in the photo. I was partway through taking it apart when I took these. If you need other angles/the other side of the board then let me know. Thanks for your help.

The missing flatcable has a hole in it?

That hole was made with the screw by the previous owner of my PSX.

Yes. Unfortunately that cable got a hole in it when I let someone take a look at it. I know I can replace that cable for a few bucks. I'm wondering why the fan doesn't turn on when plugged in like it used to, even without that cable. Is it possible something got fried?

Because now a fuse on the motherboard is blown.

The fuse near the power cable? That one seemed to be getting readings just fine. Unless there are others I'm not aware of, but that's the only one I've seen. Sorry for my ignorance.

Not the power supply fuse. A fuse on the main board ( that big green board with lots of chips in it).

Sorry for the delay in response. I work 7 days a week so I'm not always at my PC. I found the fuse that went but, but it's unmarked. Is there a schematic out there for this thing so I know what to replace it with? I can also include a picture with the circled fuse if that would help.

There's indication for the values of fuses printed on the circuit board soldermask.

Ok, so after looking on the board for any signs, I still can 't find it. This the only part on the board that isn't getting a reading. Any clue where the value would be printed for this one?

That part is a capacitor. It's supposed to not give a reading. The fuses are marked as fuses on the board. If you bother reading the stuff that is written on the board copper you will see it.

Sorry about that then. All the other capacitors were giving off a reading.
