Hi ! I would like your help if you can answer me as i have a Psx 7000 DESR model and need some help. I completely tear everything apart and cleaned it. After that i had a completely cleaned and working unit. Then after installing the FMCB exploit, i suceeded in booting elf files like ulaunch elf and ops2, and so on. Now comes the stupid part. I decided to try to boot the unit without the HDD conected just to see if it was possible to boot to any elf like this. After the FMCB logo the screen was black all the time without booting anything. Tried also booting from FMCB any elf with anoter HDD and no dice. After that i got no power Light any more and no more fan spinning and no sign of anything working on the console so i remained with a dead unit. I noticed that the flat ribbon cable that goês from the HDD to the power and HDD,led was damaged from all that HDD fidling around ... Could it be from your experience a problem with the flat cable that got damaged and if i replace it all goes well ? I checked power supply and fuses in the mainboard and all is well so i guess that nothing is fried. In other words what happens if we have a damaged ribbon flat cable as described? Does the fan still spin and the standby red Light show up or not? All your help is usefull as i already have ordered another same model unit to try to fix this one by discovering what is wrong. Also can i swap freely the working HDD from a spare same model 7000 DESR psx on the go or it will not boot to xmb at all? Also is there any way i can boot an elf file (no xmb needed) without a working sony HDD (like using another one or a faulty one, or even not conecting any HDD? My main concern and objective is trying to find at a way to boot ulaunch elf without a sony HDD, since they will all fail and after that all units as you know will remain dead forever. Also im no developer, but i know that psx bios was already dumped so maybe we could disable in some way these securite measures sony took dont you agree? I hope to hear from you and im sorry about my english but im starting to get rusty as im not a native speaker and this was typed from my phone so thank you for your patience and i apreciate your effort and help if you can. Thank you.
Hi! Well... sadly a non-Sony HDD won't be recognized because its firmware doesn't contain MagicGate code afaik. I don't know the boot process of the DESR, but if it's looking for files on the HDD (XMB?) and does not find them, it won't boot. Try to clone your harddrive with an USB-IDE cable and a good cloner (dd, WinHex), and then try to change the ribbon cable. It should be a common IDE cable, if you need one, I can send it to you. If the HDD is dead you need to replace it with another Sony one, probably also one of the normal PS2 ones will work. About the BIOS, if anyone can do a workaround, then we need to flash it back. And that could be a problem. Your english is nice! Just train a bit more EDIT Wait, re-reading your posts I saw that you are mentioning a "power ribbon cable"... Can you post some photos? That'll help us in determining and fixing your issue!
Thank you for your answer im afraid i cant post a photo as im in holidays by now. Im a bit far away from the Psx but its something more or less like this: http://cableassemblymanufacturer.co...ribbon-cable-assembly-22pin-shielded-A36.html Hopefully tomorrow i will get my psx and the other one i ordered, and i will post my findings.
Hello! That flat flex could be a problem. It powers the HDD, and if the PSU needs proper load to fire up, it could lead directly to your issues. Still, I'm no PSX expert, so I can't help you much...
