Hello! Correctly format genuine HDD ? Backup XMB to blank genuine HDD ? Install genuine Upd Disc to blank genuine HDD ? Thank you
If you have lost your HDD, the only known (and confirmed) way to reinstall the XMB is to own another PSX and to get it to install the update onto the new HDD. I guess that it may be possible to do it on the faulty PSX itself, if you do have FMCB for the PSX installed. I don't remember if it is possible to raw-copy contents between PSX HDDs. I guess that it isn't, otherwise there would be not much purpose behind the encryption.
@sp193 Can you explain it more detail? I don't get why should I need another PSX to install XMB from scratch, cause I already has the 2 faulty units with the Sony HDD's and the Update disc. Do I need to hotswap HDD's (currently working and epmty HDD) on the working unit to install XMB on empty HDD?
That's because I don't know what checks are done by the update disc. Neither have I heard of anyone successfully doing a fresh installation, with FMCB alone. This is the post that I remember, which made sense to me: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/sony-psx-desr-5100-queries.16340/page-7#post-579629 Most likely. You could try booting the update disc directly from FMCB.... since I don't think anyone has tried it.
I tried FMCB alone with 5500/7500 and 2.11, it did something but it looks like error screen, maybe like "HDD timeout". Might be zif/ribbon cable problem or else. Need time to order these parts. I'll try to do something with my DESR soon again. Thanx for sharing link.
Dont hotswap or fiddle around withpsx hds, or else you might ruin some fuse like it happened with me. I still have a desr 7000 with a board to sort out were is that blown fuse....
Please stop posting so many posts - you can use edit button. Disk is encrypted - you can see what is in it only in this particular unit - you cannot see it on pc or another dvr or another ps2. Can you explain WHY you want to format hdd?
My mistake , HDD was formated in Windows I want recovery partions to blank genuine HDD , then checking install Upd Disc
Format the HDD on windows will have no effect. The PSX will see the format as garbage (the encryption is transparent for the PS2 side. it doesn't even know the HDD is encrypted.)
