    PSX dvd playback in svideo/composite?

When I have gotten dvd-roms to recognize, when played, I lose video from the composite port- is this normal? Is there some setting I need to change to allow playback via composite instead of D-terminal? I sold my last D to component cable with my old DESR-5000, so I'm just trying to remember how to make this bastard of a machine work right again... or if this is normal...

    Thanks!

Managed to fix media detect- Noticed an iridescent shine on the right laser's lens- cleaned it with a little alcohol, and good as new.

    Other issue still persists. Thanks!

I have a similar problem. CD read perfectly, DVD - no.
Cleaning the lens to solve the problem? This will be enough?

Possibly, sometimes the lasers can be burnt out.
also a word of caution- DESR is a royal pain to disassemble.

    A rundown:
If the system DETECTS dvd media, but doesn't play them, then the left lens (looking at the front of the system) is at fault.
If the system IGNORES all dvd media, then the right AT LEAST is at fault, so clean both in case.

Thanks for the clarification. No, the DESR does not detect DVD. Heard a few clicks (head trying to focus?) And all. Today or tomorrow I will be dismantled.

So, I made out of PSX and it is really a pain in the ass. Had a lot of dirt on the inside and out of the lens. After cleaning and flushing were determined discs:
    Music CD - yes
    Video DVD-ROM - no
    Clean DVD - yes
    DVD+RW - no
    DVD-ROM PS2 - yes / no (50/50).
Interestingly, if the PSX run for about an hour, DVD-ROM PS2 determined by 100%.
Think that we need a more thorough cleaning and to increase the current of the laser. What are thoughts? Thank you.

    DESR-5000/7000/5100/7100 use SONY KWS-200A

    DESR-5500/7500/5700/7700 use SANYO SF-DB11

Both lasers were slightly common on DVD recorders of the 2003-2005 timeframe.

there are only 2 colors for the DESR. Most of them are white. the only exception is the DESR-5100S which has silver color.

All other colors such as red, yellow...etc never got released.

Yellow, Red and Blue were displayed on a trade show (Tokyo Game Show perhaps ?) but they never went on sale.
