    Hi,
i found this site today: http://policenauts.net/english/
Very cool to play Policenauts in english. I love this game.
All you need is Policenauts jap for PSX.
Easy to patch. I test it, and it works fine.

I've been following that site FOREVER! I can't believe I missed the patch release. They were supposed to send out an email about it... Probably got eaten by a filter though.

    Just finished the game.

First off I feel the need to publicly thank "PTP" for all of their hard work during the past 3 years trying to get this together, Policenauts in English is something I have been hoping for nearly a decade.

Being an avid Snatcher fan (and Kojima fan for that matter) I was seething at the aspiration to finally play this game, although not related to Snatcher story wise in any aspect, many deem Policenauts the pseudo sequel to the game, mainly because it is the same type of game, and many of the same team members worked on both projects. Although everyone knows who Hideo Kojima is, and many revere his line of games, Digital comics are not for everyone. These kind of games take a great deal of patience and contain enormous amounts of text. It can be like reading a book with small breaks of puzzle solving, point-and-click investigation, and the occasional cross hair style shoot out.

The story was very satisfying, Kojima has yet to let me down. Just like all of his games heavy research was done to insure that the Policenauts universe was as truthful as can be according to the existing real life space exploration/astronaut history, I learned quite a lot from this game about space exploration. Right away I noted the similarities between the 2 main characters Johnathan Ingram, and Ed Brown to Mel Gibson and Danny Glover's characters from the Lethal Weapon series. Kojima always pays Homage to his favorite Hollywood films.
I finished the game in just over 12 hours of play time (according to my save file) and every bit of it was enjoyable. My wife enjoys Kojima's story telling style and watched me play through the entire game, enthusiastic the whole time.

All in all it was a fantastic game, each scene had it's own ambiance visually and musically that set you in the perfect mood for the storyline taking place at the moment. It was not a difficult game in any sense, if you pay attention to the storyline then it is not hard at all to figure out what you are supposed to click on next to progress. My only complaint is that the shootout scenes are awkward control wise, it is not easy to aim with the digital pad (this game does not support analog) But perhaps if I spent more time practicing in the shooting range at BCP headquarters in the game I would have gotten more accustomed to it.

The translation code is flawless, although I can tell that the translators took some liberties with the translation in certain aspects to either cut the length of the reading to fit the length of time the dialogue was running, or to fit the English jargon/slang more properly.

ALSO: There was a warning that came with the patch that said this game would not play properly in a Sony Playstation because it would crash. I found this to be false. it worked on my setup. I have a Sony Playstation SCPH-7501 the last model that has the expansion hatch in the back which allows for Game Shark type of accessories to be attached. I have a "Code Card" gameshark style device that allows you to play imports and backups and it worked 100% it even played the part after the credits that is supposed to crash.

If you like point-and-click games check out this gem for sure.
I think Snatcher is still my favorite, but this game comes pretty damn close.
If you survived my long ass post, thanks for reading.

    George

    Thanks George,
first i try to run the patched files in my chiped SCPH-1002. I got only to the cd menue  .
With my DTL-H1200 it runs great without any problem. So i think some units make trouble...
Another great thing is you can play the game with the PS mouse.
But i prefer the grip pad.

I hope i can test this soon.

I wonder why Kojima never bothered to make remakes of Policenauts or Snatcher on this new generation consoles. Remake + original game = winner!

because that might take some work, and the world outside JP will sit there and stare at you blankly when either policenauts or snatcher are uttered, but jump up and down and fork over bundles of money for anything with the metal gear name... even more hilariously given the number of crossovers, cameos, etc shared between the games...
