"Production of Sony's PSX multipurpose entertainment console, which combines a PlayStation 2's gaming capabilities with a digital video recorder and DVD burner, has been on hold since early April, Japanese newsmagazine Shuukan Gendai reports in its latest issue. Sony's public relations representatives explain the halt as a temporary measure, taken to manage Sony's stock of the expensive device. Production will begin again at an as-yet-undecided time, once stock already in the retail pipeline decreases -- officially, it's analogous to Nintendo's temporary halt in GameCube production last year." From http://www.1up.com/article2/0,2053,1567180,00.asp Am I the only one with an inkling that this thing is going to bomb? Its been pretty quiet on the PSX front...
Halting production to clear out excess stock..... now where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, with the N64 and Dreamcast and Gamecube. It always meant the thing was on its way out! I'm wondering if this could mean a biiig price drop? I'd love to get my hands on one of those dealies if they were priced a LOT lower..
Im not sure many people would care though - Sony pretty much have market sachuration anyway not likely they will even manage to flog their leftover stock imo :smt017
It's a good bet that this will be a good collectable in the future. Especially if it gets dropped within the next year. Has the Panasonic Q gone up in price or is it still too soon.
The PSX has been a flop since day one. I remember seeing a used one only 1 week after release. THat used PSX is STILL in Hard Off now :smt043 Nobody wants it. The TV adds for it on TV are crap too. The go like this. There are a few people sitting on a train saying the words "Left, down, press" or something like that whilst doing the movement of controlling the PSX's buttons with their thumbs. The screen the changes from the people on the train to the actual PSX menu screen which is shown to move like the people are saying. That's it. What a load of cack :smt019 They are probably trying to say that the system is easy to use. Yakumo
- I think the problem is people are still seeing it as an expensive console rather then the DVD recorder it is. Can probably attribute that to Sony calling it the PSX and, from what I've read, a poor marketing campaign. But it did sell out on release and Sony have gone from 1% of the DVD recorder market to 35% so it isn't that much of a failure. They have just been overly optimistic and as a result pumped out to many units. It's a valubale lesson though. Sony should take away from this that whacking the Playstation name onto a product will not always result in total dominance over a market.
You still think the GC is gonna fail GSL? I remember you posting about it over a year ago, but from what I see it's still going strong (must've been the price drop to 99e) :smt043
Re: - Well said Gaijin Punch. Before the PS2, the Dreamcast was the fastest selling console ever :smt033 Yakumo
I read something that the claims of the PSX selling out on release, was based on the pre-order figures. So technically anything can "sell out" on the release day, if everyone that pre-ordered collected their item... doesnt seem so clever now does it...
Well a year ago it was just wishful thinking (I wanted those Nintendo bastards to SUFFER like my beloved Sega has, to lament their fall inside the winter of their discontent....err....) but I don't know, to me it's looking a lot like the N64 and Dreamcast did, with console price drops, developers jumping ship, fewer and fewer first-party games..... then again, maybe it's just residual Sega bitteness.. :smt043 :smt027 So Yakumo, how much (out of complete curiousity) was that PSX at Hard Off going for?
No they don't. Sony's commercials suck balls :smt027 Xbox had quite nice adds as did Sega. Nintendo still have quite a few nice ones. Anyone remember the GameBoy Advanced Super Donkey Kong Country add? That was so funny. Personally I disslike 80% of US game adds. European adds are ok though (sometimes) Yakumo
The onlyproblem with that though is it takes a miracle before we even see a single game related ad in the UK - I've gone for months at a time only seeing an ad once and never seeing it repeated Yeah, you're right there LeGIt. I remember that if you saw a game add on UK TV then you were extemely lucky rayer: Game adds are on all the time over here. Some repeat so many times it's annoying. The adds on Japanese TV are always for the same things too. Here's my Japanese TV top 10 Adds. 1. Cars 2. Beer 3. Electrical goods (TV, Stereo, DVD etc) 4. Health goods (food & drink) 5. Womens pads (you know what I mean) 6. House hold goods (Cleaning stuff) 7. Games 8. Woman's underwear 9. Promotion (concerts, live events etc.) 10. Hmmmm, Adds for more adds ???? Yakumo
Sorry for the huge quote BUT what the hell happened there?! Yakumo, legit?! What... whos post whos reply...
hmm, looks like I've made a few boo boos thanks to late night web surfing :smt009 That post with my listing of Japanese adds was an edit of LeGIt's post. It should have been a quote but it looks like I hit the wrong button since Edit and Quote are next to each other :Hangman: Yakumo
