I have a SNES Mini that I bought some time ago from ebay. It is RGB modded and it also has a SuperCIC mod.

It shows a good RGB image but sometimes I get a purple tint in the image. Like I am playing and suddenly the image becomes darker and more purple, then after some time the image is OK, sometimes it is OK all the time or sometimes it changes a lot. I can see the purple tint more clearly if I play for example a SuperGameboy game where the image has a small color pallete (I don't have any photos but I can't take any if needed).

I think the problem is not the RGB cable since I tried 1) the cable that came with the modded console, 2) a cable from RetrogamingCables with composite sync, 3) a cable from RetrogamingCables with C-Sync.

I have some experience in electronics/soldering but this console was already modded when I bought it. I would like to know if you have any ideas about what could be the problem or what should I look to try to solve the problem.

    Thanks.

First thing on a modded console with issues is to check the mod. You may be having colder solder joints if there's a video mod in it.

What in the world... You might have bought that from drakon dude. Not to rail on modders but thats some really bad work. Youre better off removing all of that and using a mod board.

Maybe its that one resistor leg thats touching the metal shielding.

Why do you think it will be hard to fix?

The glue is thick and wrapped around the mod cables. If you tear on the glue, you rip off the cables.
So anyway, I'd try to localize the issue and only work on that. Leave the other mess as it is.

Honestly, I read that as Irish Pale Ale.... Think i've been drinking too much recently.. lol

On another note, Isopropyl Alcohol is NOT a drink, but IS very effective at removing hot glue, thank god!

The power and reset buttons must have leaked into the console.

Thank you for your comments. I'll try to see if I can fix it. Although I am an electronics engineer, it's been a long time since I haven't made this kind of work and with my new hobby for retro consoles I've started with small things. I will let you know my progress with it.

If I were you, I would remove the entire modding work. Although one cannot see the modding work in detail (due to the massive use of hot glue) I guess the modding work is not better. Be careful when removing hot glue form S-CPUN pin 111.

The mod author told me that the problem could be the rgb amplifier and by removing it and doing the rgb mod directly from the video chip the problem should be solved, since there should not be any image quality difference.
Apart from following or not that advice,
would anybody here accept the "challenge" of fixing this? (using any additional parts). I'd like to know the price to pay for such a repair job. Thanks.

I'm in Spain. No problems for shipping though (I recently sent an n64 to UK for example).

yeah, replace everything you see in there.
At least I could offer one of these PCB here to replace the SuperCIC modding shit if Noko Bombette is interested. I guess Bad_Ad84 should have some of his PCB solution for this mod left, too ;)
For the RGB mod... I would have to look for but might be possible that I have something at home.

Despite how it might look, I got it all working properly. The amount of glue everywhere, there's more risk getting it all out without damaging the snes than there is just fixing it.
