It's something I'm interested to do since long time ago. Is it possible to put a backlight to a gb-style LCD screen?
If it is, how hard is it, what I need and how much should I spend for all necessary stuff?

PD: I have enough screens to test without caring about destroying them (crappy "brick games xxxxxx-in-1")

Can't offer any real help as I have never seen an actual retrofitted backlight. Plenty of front light modifications though.

Now you've got me interested in this.
Found this guide for adding an Electro Luminescent backlight to a simple LCD panel. I suppose it should work for just about anything though. Anyone up to making their own GB lights?

There was the Afterburner mod for the 1st generation GBA. Then the GBASP came out.

AFAIK lots of backlit screens are illuminated by LEDs, the big deal is to know which ones are appropiate for a screen and where it must be put. I have some leds somewhere, so I'll start working on it.

I believe that the afterburner was actually a front light modification.
