While looking for a backup for my ikaruga disc i found a disc that had 4 games in one. I have no idea if you guys have seen it, but it boots as a webpage and then you click on the image of the game and the game starts, any of you know how to make these kind of discs?

What were the games, commercial games?

Just a web browser (usually Dream Passport) configured to boot the games.

Look at the *.ini files on root of the CD. Usually the dp3.ini. There are entries in this file poiting to the games binaries.

  7. Yeah I've been making my own compilations of commerical Dreamcast games for a while now. Particularly in the case of the shooters, the games don't take up that much space so you can get four or five of them on a disc.

I made up a two-disc compilation that has all the DC shooters released since Ikaruga on it as well as a bunch of extras hidden within the menu system (like Noiz2sa, Namco Museum which has Galaxian and Galaga on it and a selection of Genesis shooters via the Smash Pack emulator). I also fully customized the menu system to give it a shoot'em up theme. I even gave it a witty-ironic pre-title screen that has the FBI logo and says "PIRATES DON'T USE DRUGS." That's all using the DreamPassport menu as someone else said.

The DreamOn menu system from the European demo discs is much nicer, but I've always had trouble getting it to work properly. Once or twice I've been able to burn DreamOn discs that work well, but usually most of the textures fail to load and navigating the menu is agonizingly slow. I think the problem might be that the files need to be on the disc in a specific order or something in order to be able to load them each fast enough in order. It's based on the Ginsu system which is also used by Planet Web and Testmenu, which are two other possibilities for commercial game menu systems on the Dreamcast.

DreamPassport is easy to work with, though. It just uses GIFs, HTML, MIDI and things like that and if you're creative it can come out feeling very nice.

Neither DreamPassport nor DreamOn/Ginsu can be used for homebrew stuff. At least not usually. If the homebrew is only a single BIN with no external files like Noiz2sa or the Space Invaders emu, it can be loaded. Otherwise you can use Dream Inducer or DreamHakker for homebrew stuff.
