Ah good to know, I am looking for a spare adaptor for my megacd actually, as I couldn't get it working with a megadrive adaptor. So I need to get a hold of a 10v? I'll try it with a universal one (or if somebody here has an original for sale that would be great too pm me)
It's not the voltage, but the amperage. Sega's official remaindered parts outlet sells the official CDX adapter, which is 9 volts at 1.3 amps and is more than sufficient to drive a Wondermega or X'eye. I have also experienced burning out the 850 ma universal adapter, so it was important to me to have the real part in its place. Not a shill, just a satisfied customer. That's because I made it  that PlayStation is the one I punished in an early episode of Retro Core about 2 years ago  I'm very surprised to see someone using it as an avatar  Yakumo
You evil little man. Destroying a poor defenceless Playstation. Back on topic, the Wondermega will run happily between 8V and 11V (although keep it around 9 to 10V) in at least 1.3Amps, one sign of a distressed or overloaded PSU is the LEDs in the lid dim a lot when the lid is open or closed. Old PSUs are more likely to suffer this problem, solution is to get a decent switched mode PSU as it will deliver more power, be tiny and light and won't hmm like mad.
in fact it's the power (P)! ampereage is controlled by voltage and the loads resistance (U/R = I) the resistance is mostly given (in ohm. but there is also some negligible capacitive and inductive load in parallel). so the amperage only depends of the amount of the voltage you put in. so, the higher the voltage the higher the amperage and the resulting power as the product of voltage and amperage (U*I = P). so it's very important that you don't overfeed the system with voltage. if you underfeed it or use an supply with too less capacity, you only will burn your supply, but most likely not your system.
Yeah, you tend to smell overloaded amps before they pop. On or just under the voltage, enough amps, it's all good. My SNES and wondermega are both running fine on 9V. Yeah,it's a sad PS1. It wants to die. Cos his big sister PS2 says he's not man enough to fulfil her anymore. Long story. Retrocore 11 47 minutes in.
Here's the latest trick... Take a standard UK MasterBase converter, unscrew all the screws including the weird metal block above the cartridge pins, pull out the innards and insert in the cartridge slot. All your Master System games run on your WonderMega in NTSC/s-video. You can use the DSP buttons on them as well. You have to insert and remove it with care though, but what would a WonderMega be without a bit of Wonder Boy. The carts come up as "Sega Mark III" onscreen too. Extra groovy. Everything I tried worked. Video of the day. http://vision.ameba.jp/watch.do?movie=511058 Lid goes up... Lid goes down. Hours of fun.
That's cool! Do you also get the FM sound (with games that support it) rather than the weak crap the western Master System puts out? Yakumo
I shall investigate further sir. I got a pretty good Master System collection but mostly that weak western crap.
