I've been attempting to install a Qoob SX in a Gamecube for the first time and it's starting to do my head in. I've resoldered and retinned the wires about 5 times now and I always get exactly the same result. The Gamecube boots (or doesn't, but the monitor detects something, possibly just because it's ground) to a black screen and the DVD drive won't spin up. I always get a green light on my Qoob SX, but nothing else, which I assume just indicates the Qoob is getting power. I've used the following guide to install it:
E and F are definitely not touching the heatsink or bridged. I haven't flashed the chip, but I assumed this wasn't the issue as the only way I can flash it is via DVD. As the drive is making absolutely no attempt to seek anything, I didn't see how it could read media in order to flash the chip. Attempting to boot whilst holding down D-left and B doesn't alter anything either. Incidentally, the Gamecube works perfectly fine once the chip is uninstalled.
Not installed an SX, but you have to flash the Pro via usb. Assume it must work without flashing, as theres no USB port though...
Yeah, the SX can be flashed via BBA (which I don't have) or optical media only. Was hoping the process wouldn't be a pain, as I've got a second chip to install in my Panasonic Q, but I really don't want to have to take that apart if the chip's not going to work.
Yep, faulty chip. Unfortunately it came from Taobao, so no chance of a refund. Luckily the chip can be disconnected and swapped round without having to desolder any wires, so I just popped in the other chip (which I really should have thought about doing a while ago) and it booted up just fine. Just means this Cube will just get a Xeno installed in it and the Qoob will go to my Q.
Aside from Q compatibility are there any other benefits to using the Qoob? It looks like a lot more work than the Xeno.
