There was a patch released recently that is supposed to add in most of the lighting effects(I think the ps2 version ones) and some nicer textures, but the only way I can play the game is to run it using 3d-analyze with the option for "emulate hardware tnl caps" selected(without it all I can see is my ammo bar and some light sources, no walls/flour/world/models).

Anyways I can't tell if I'm getting any benifits from the patch besides the updated textures. While my card is old(ti4200) I think it can do lighting and shader effects equal or better then a gamcube, but the system requirements do say a card that supports 2.0 model shaders is required(which I don't understand since it is a port of the ps2 version, and unless I'm mistaken the only way a ps2 could do pixel shading would be in software, and it would likely be very slow. Also can the gamecube do and shading at the hardware level?).

So back to the point. From what I've read tnl is basically a way for hardware to render lighting effects. Would I be correct? And does a card's ability to do tnl have anything to do with it's level of shader support?

Actually if someone happens to have the game installed with patch, and happens to have a save game somewhere near the fight with El Gigante(or whatever his name was, the big ugly guy) or around the area where you fight the sea monster, I would love it if you could grab a few screenshots so I could compare them to look of the game on my pc.(or hell a few decent resolution shots from the first are or two would work)

I'm usually not too worried about graphics, but I would hate to finish the game only to find out I could have played it with a much richer atmosphere.

the GC can do TnL but it's not programmable like the NVIDIA chip on XBOX.

Also, the GC has the unique ability to do 8 texture layers per pass (I think the XBOX can only do 4)

Also, note : TEV "Texture EnVironment" engine (similar to "pixel shader")

The same features hold true for the Hollywood chip in the Wii (except for numerical estimates, that are directly relative to the clock-speed of the components)

From what I ve been told, RE4 on the PC also suffers from bad controls.

You're probably better off with the GC or even the Wii version of the game - the way it was meant to be played.

Please note that the image quality of the game in 480p is superb, and due to the game's design, any higher resolution would subtract significantly from the original experience - not everything is meant to be hi-res or res-ed up.

I'm sure to have all the effects you will need something like at least a Geforce 5xxx series videocard or a Radeon 9600+ video card.

Japanese ports are always inferior. If anyone remember the shite that was FF7 for PC, or any of the RE games before 4, etc...

The only reason to get this is if it is hackable and custom mappable.

If you can do that, or even just get an ashley nudeskin, it would sell :fap:

hmm, the gc is a little more powerfull then I had assumed.

I would agree that the pc port is rather sloppy, and I had planned on picking up a gc at some point, but it's looking to be a little bit longer then I had hoped. Still I don't think I'll continue playing the pc version, atleast not with my current gfx card. I've got plenty of older stuff to finish, so I guess I can wait to play re4.
