Yeah, I already know that Quake 2 was ported and released but I'm only interested in Quake 1 info.
    Thanks

There are many myths about original Quake on Playstation, so it's hard to say what is truth or not.

According to wikipedia, there was an interview about porting for sega saturn, saying that it was harder than the cancelled psx port.

Damn, I bet that would've been a great port. Lobotomy were technical wizards, those lighting effects on Powerslave still look so cool. Hopefully this eventually turns up, I'd love to see what they were able to do with the Playstation hardware.

    EDIT: I found it!

Here's a direct quote from my (as-yet unpublished) interview with Kevin Chung, formerly of Lobotomy Software, on the subject of the team's Quake conversion for the PlayStation:

"I want to say that 'yes, we had something running,' but my memory ain't what it used to be and I think to call that a fact would be a stretch."

In addition to this, Ezra Dreisbach revealed that it ran at 30fps and was definitely not complete - it existed as a short tech demo for the purpose of securing a publisher. Also, the project was being led by programmer Jeff Blazier, who previously worked on the PS version of PowerSlave/Exhumed/1999.

Does anyone know where Jeff is now? He'd probably be able to tell us a lot more about this one...

On the subject of cancelled Lobotomy projects, was any media from either Aquaria or Gothic ever made public? I've only ever seen the former described as being similar to the underwater section from NiGHTS and intended for the N64, while less is known about the latter - supposedly it was a PC strategy title. A small amount of concept art exists for the abandoned PowerSlave follow-up, but I've never seen anything from the other games Lobotomy was working on when it went under...

    Haha that's my interview from SS:UK! :)

I'm interested in info on the PS version of Quake however as said I don't think it ever got passed being a tech demo, although Ezra did confirm it ran much better on the PS than the Saturn, as with almost every single port anyway (I'm a Saturn fan but I'm not blind to fact).

I wanted to get into contact with some other Lobotomy staff but unfortunately Ezra is the only one I've found thus far. He's a really nice guy too, being so open to answer my questions like that.

Also I'd love to see more about Powerslave/Exhumed 2 myself but I only remember seeing concept images of basic 3d models and so on in a magazine..

Also from the interview we know it was inspired or at least going to be similar to Tomb Raider but with much better geometry in it's engine.. Lobotomy were such amazing coders it's a shame their efforts never came to fruition. Powerslave is still my all time favorite FPS (Saturn Version).

I have to agree with you. Hopefully a tech demo turn up one day.
