First, I want to say how good it is to be back. I bought this damn thing like 2 months ago and haven't had any place to post it. Okay. I found this thing on ebay while killing time and have no idea what it is. It weighs a ton (mostly due to a massive heat sink) and all the boards are qualcomm branded. I don't believe it's a chinese clone, as the build quality is excellent. There's a front facing camera on the right (your right, not the unit's right) It has shoulder buttons. My best guess is that this is some sort of device meant to show off the potential of the Snapdragon chipset. There are a few qualcomm devices from trade shows floating around, but those are mostly cell phone form factor. No amount of googling turned up anything.
Yeah looks like a late prototype.. Could have been aimed at commercial applications, or industrial (pov machine control?)
Photobucket is brutal, can't zoom in, have to close multiple ads. Can you also post these images to http://imgur.com ? I'd love to zoom in on the boards, can you tell which SoC it's using?
Those 2 sockets next to each other (labeled UIM) are sockets for Qualcomm R-UIM cards (sort of like SIM cards but used for certain CDMA devices/networks). My bet is that the 2 big square shields next to them will contain CDMA chips. The board says MSM8660 on it so its obviously running a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8660 (has dual core ARM CPUs, Adreno GPU and CDMA2000 radio stuff). The only way to find out any more about what this thing is would be to take the shields off (if they can be taken off, they may be soldered in place) and see all the different chips underneath them.
