I just saw two famicom clones at a store near me and had a question about them. There were two models: one that looks like a n64 control and the second looked like a PSone. They both had built in games and a cartridge port. I know that famicom carts work on these clones (i tested it). However will the big american NES games work on them? I know the carts are a little different shape, but is there a workaround to make NES games work on a famicom?

Maybe someone could make a "custom clone" but i dont think you could cram those big cartridges in one of em'. :smt043

  3. You need a 60pin - 72pin converter.

    Uh...all joking aside...

Famicom carts have 60 pins, and NES have 72 pins. So, your NES games aren't going to fit in a famiclone.

Uh...60 to 72 pin converters are pretty common, because they allow you to play Famicom Games on your NES. 72 to 60 pins are different though, because well, who really wants to play NES games on a Famicom? I do know they're out there though. As, people use them to play NES games on those portable Famicoms like Game Axe and Game Theory Admiral. Look around, I'm sure they're out there.

Nah, you'll probably need an adapter. They do exist as some of the handheld famiclones have had adapters made for them.

EDIT: damn you all for typing quicker than me.

I used to find loads of those famiclone adapters, both 60 to 72 and vice-versa in the mexican black market. Haven't seen a lot of them lately, though. Meh. I miss the nineties.

They do exist, though, for sure. I know, since both standard nes and nes-like clones, and famiclones were qute common down here, and everyone had an adapter for the other type of carts.

Used to have a regular nes and one of those famicom adapters, though, so I can't help you with the backwards one. But I know they exist and believe you me, the mexican black market is the place to look.
    Hope this helps.

welcome XerdoPewko, oh and make the avatar a bit smaller please ;-)

I used to have a Famiclone with a 72-pin cart slot, I used to play on it when I didnt have a NES, I think I sold it to Tachikoma.

    Avatar Fixed.

Want me to check it out if I can find some adapters in the black market next sunday? I go with my sister every sunday anyway.

Didn't go today. Mom made picadas (some variation of gorditas, from Veracruz) for breakfast - and that CANNOT be missed. :-D

But will go next sunday for sure.

You can get these adapters on Ebay for about $8.99. Search "Famicom adapter."

They're usually nothing more than a board with the two pin slots attached, and kind of flop around a bit. Work decently in my Game Axe, just don't jiggle it.

Found only two adapters, both were 60 to 72. Apparently 72 to 60 are much much rarer.
If you are intereted, though, they are worth anything between 6 and 12 dollars, depending on your bartering skills.
Would have bought them, but I don't have a NES and my sister who has one has no Famicom games.

Maybe if I find a used Famiclone... they used to include the 72 to 60 adapters, back in the day.

Who knows. Next sunday I'll look again.
