    (I'm French and I use a translator)

I have a question about the region switch mod for a Nintendo GameCube (a Japanese console). I have a small project to modify a Panasonic Q and I need to know something, but this question is also valid for a classic GameCube of course!

On a modded console, is it "dangerous" for the system to change the region while the console is on? Because I don't want to install a classic switch with two positions, but I prefer to install a small "push button" (I would like to push this button while turning on the console to change the region, if it possible only).

So the same question but asked differently: for a console modified with a switch, does switching the region switch during the game change something for the console?

    Thank you :)

It won't change while the console is on. If you use a push button then it will have to be latching.

I may have been misquoted (or I do not understand your answer lol): if I turn on the console and I hold the push button during the appearance of the GameCube logo on the screen, the region will be changed and I could release the button?

You don't touch the push button when you turn on the console. You put it into either of the two positions before you turn on the console.
The push button will need to be double throw (on/on) and latching.

That mod works by having you hold down the switch before booting the system. You seem to ask about pushing the switch after the system is already on and that won't work. It has to be held during the boot process.

Ahh ok ! So in fact, the "region check" is only done while the booting sequence of the Game Cube, that's it?

Yes. And to answer your other question it isn’t harmful to to use the switch when the system is on, though as others have mentioned it won’t do anything.

Perfect, thank you for your complete answer :) I'm working on a mod like this on my Panasonic Q, by using one of the buttons on the DVD player that is not used in GameCube mode (basically, holding a DVD player button while booting the device into game console mode), it would be an good alternative to the switchless mod formerly made by Lik-Sang for this device (they used a 12C508 chip which was intended to change the region of the console by holding the power button, but I ca not find any tutorial or schema to install and program this kind of chip).
    Thanks again ! :)
