I just got my GG everdrive and i'm still preparing my mini SD card. I noticed that my cart compared to the one in the pictures from Krikzz's site, is missing the small chip that is directly under the mini sd slot (far right of the chips side of the cart. Since the gg everdrive in the pictures is also v1.1 (same as the one I got), why is this chip missing and what is it's purpose? Does it have something to do with USB comunication? Thanks
No i don't have USB... Also some times when i power up the GG the menu doesn't come up and i have to try a couple of times before it does. Same thing after flashing a game and want to try another. Is this behaviour normal?
it is usb chip and available only in usb version. well, i have two gamegear systems, and one works fine, but another sometimes may not turn on with everdrive. don't know why, may be bad capacitors or something like that
All capacitors have been replaced with new. Maybe bad contacts. edit Yes I confirmed it, its the contacts... holding the cart in such a way that will put more stress in the contacts inside the GG causes the everdrive to boot each and every time. Thanks Krikzz
Hello Krikzz, I tried a while ago to send you a private message but i am not sure you got it because it doesnt show on my "Sent" messages, so im posting it here. You probably read my post about my GG everdrive (got it this friday) not booting all the time... Actually its more like its booting 3 out of 10 times i turn my GG on (more or less). If it boots its working fine but since you need to turn off and on many times to try games, its a bit annoying. Finally the problem is not on the contacts of the GG, all 15 of my original carts boot fine. At first it fooled me that it was the contacts but after a little more testing (and cleaning the contacts again) the problem still remains (only with the everdrive, the other carts boot fine every time). I dont have another GG to try it there too but its weird that only the everdrive behaves that way and when it boots its working fine, games dont crash if you move the cart a little bit so ti cant be a contacts issue. My GG has new capacitors and otherwise its working fine. Do you think I should send it to you for testing? And if you think i should please pm me the address because i threw away the envelope
sure, you can send to me for check, but i think that cart have no defects. as i said before, i have two different gg, one system works fine with ED, other have same problem like you said, but both systems always work fine with standard carts. try to wait few seconds between power off/on.
I ve tried all reasonable combinations krikzz, waiting before turn on, turning off faster... It doesnt seem to follow any specific patern. It just doesnt boot most of the times. Please pm me your address.
KRIKzz, have you ever been able to measure consumption of any Everdrive? Power supply isn`t a linear regulator and PWM controller could jumps to protect mode if detects fluctuations in 5vdc output (the other output is 34vdc for back light) Dry capacitors can increase consuption in startup and make it critical
Yes thats it.... 7 out of ten times i get that (lcd is on, but nothing on screen and it just stays there) and 3 times it goes straight in the menu screen. I saw on youtube that it is also supposed to show a message like "PRODUCED BY OR UNDER LICENCE OF SEGA etc"... mine never shows that message as soon as i turn it on. Either black screen (but lcd and GG red led on) or menu screen. Also relfashed the OS v4, but it didnt solve it. Why krikzz? You thought i was having the common problem with the GG switching off?
actually edgg eat less power than some original carts. usually gg carts uses saga's custom chips, which most power effective, but some other carts may uses old cpld and standard memory chip. for example i have "deep duck truble" cart which based on old XILINX cpld + some memory chip, and this cart need even more power than ed gg. i check total current of whole of system with various carts, and here is results: gg with regular cart 250ma gg with everdrive 280ma gg with original xixlinx based cart: 290ma unfortunately i can't check startup drop pulse right now
yes, i thought that you have switch off problem. well, usually i test all carts on those gg, which show trademark screen, but i have non trademark version also. today will try to check current ed gg version on non trademark system
No my GG doesn't have any auto power switch off problem. You think its a GG trademark version issue? Well, my GG everdrive is on its way to you for testing so we'll find out if the problem is on my actual GG everdrive or elsewhere... It was posted this morning. But if it was a non trademark GG issue, wouldn't you have many reports from other buyers of the GG Everdrive already? Non trademark GameGears must be very common. I've already had two of them (one i had at first and another one i got from UK when the first one broke down)..
i don't have many reports from gg users. i just tested current vrsion of edgg on non trademark system, and cart works fine, so may be your cart really have some defect. we will see, when i got your package.
