    Hey Tech Guys

I have a Saturn that turns on, spins the disc, moves the laser....but nothing beyond that. No audio or video. When you turn to console on there is a flicker on the screen but there it doesn't even go to the logo.

    Any help?

    Thanks,
    Eric

Any answer other than mine is going to involve more work than a used Saturn in Japan costs.

The only two sensible things you can check, is one to make sure the reset button isn't jammed in as opening and closing the Saturn can cause that (or just make sure the rubber mat of the reset switch isn't flat) and to remove and reseat the PSU board, else keep the CD-ROM unit and bin the rest. Personally the CD-ROM will normally fail well before anything else does.

I've found the device GP suggested to be extremely effective in dealing with broken Saturn systems. Although rather than using that device I used one that looks more like a Closet.

If it's a used Saturn, anything could be wrong with it. They may have dropped it, taken a bath with it, left it out in the sun for the whole summer, who knows. There are things like Jamtex mentioned that you could check for incase it's a simple problem. But I wouldn't worry too much about it.

At risk of looking like a shill, I'd like to invite you over to GamesX.com to ask the forum members there. But to start you off, my instinct is to diagnose loose connectors or cold solder on the A/V connector. If the disk drive goes through the boot process of looking for a game or music CD, then it's likely that most of the unit is working fine and you're just not getting reliable output.

I'm fairly sure that's what mine did when the 50 / 60hz switch mod didn't pan out. You might want to open it up and see if someone had ever attempted to modify it. If so, it should be reversible.
