Recently i heard of the psp being able to play old playstation games, which made me interested about looking into buying one. How is the emulation for other systems? N64, SNES, Turbografx, & Genesis. I know NES is full speed not so sure about the others. The PSX emulation is sounding really good right now.... If could do N64 full speed..... I already have a DS lite but if this really is an emulation power house, then i might just sell it or trade it for PSP
If you want to do emulation, you'll want to find an older firmware PSP and might want to upgrade to the Dark_Alex 3.10 custom firmware found here: http://www.dark-alex.org/ There's also a promising N64 emulator for the Sony PSP: Daedalus N64 http://sourceforge.net/projects/daedalus-n64
StrmnNrmn > Subbie He is refering to me because I wrote a N64 emulator for psp some time ago. I quit tho due to getting a new job. Anyways in general, There are great Genesis, GBC, NES, SNES, CPS 1, CPS 2, NeoGeo, Neo Geo CD, emulator on the psp (high compatibility, full speed, etc). There is an awsome GBA emu that on some games runs full spead but others somewhat slow. Still over all an amazing achivement. There is a N64 emulator by a guy name strmnnrmn that while not full speed does pretty damn well with mario at around 20fps in some parts and 7-15 in game with audio. The guy is constantly hacking away to get it up to full speed (which in good time will happen). The latest PSP firmware has an official PS1 emulator in it that can be unlocked via custom firmware to play any ps1 game. The emulator is full speed and is highly compatible. To do all this stuff you need to find a psp that is 1.5 or comes pre installed with a 3.0+ OE firmware. If you dont mind dolling out the cash you can probably find a few import shops that will sell them all setup for you for a very very small fee. Ewww I feel dirty now for typing all that. :banghead:
Be aware that the control quality of the PSP leaves something to be desired. The DPAD esspecially could be better.
if you look over at the qj.net forums they have a thread that details how to detect what version psp it is by the code on the box. Find a psp that is firmware 3.03 or lower, downgrade it to 1.5 then up to 3.10oe Honestly, the psp has perhaps some of the best emulation and dev scene outside of the pc Ryan
Newer model psp are better on the d-pads. Also a capcom SFZ3DU d-pad fixes things quite well (makes it feel more like a saturn pad).
Thanks sounds really good, now to just buy a psp with the right firmware.... I'm thinking about going to gamestop asking seeing if they have used ones. Might look into that capcom dpad. There is a chance of bricking (when downgrading firmware) when its higher then firmware 1.5 right? Also the firmware flashing is done through USB or the memory stick duo?
well, you'll load the file onto the memory stick, then run it on the psp One note if you get a 3.03, you will need GTA LCS unpatched version to execute the downgrader Honestly, if you use one of the "all-in-one" downgraders you have little to no chance of bricking Ryan
heh, yea, thats actually not bad...........thoygh i'd just buy a normal psp, go down to blockbuster rent GTA and downgrade, or look for a psp with firmware 2.71 as it doesnt require GTA to download, rather just an image file, loader and downgrader Edit* if your worried about bricking, don't be, I've known more people who have bricked their psp trying to upgrade their psp's, you probably run a greater risk of updating your psp through sony then you would be downgrading Ryan
One quick question: since the miniUSB on the PSP allows the use of devices (like that camera) could you hook the unit to an iPod or any other MP3/massive storage unit and then run the files from the HDD? Had anyone done that? cuz it would be a must of you want your entire ROM collection for emus and such.
You seem to be ignoring the USB basics Shadowlayer. This is not possible, because USB devices need one of the two to be a host. Look for the Official USB standards manual online, for manufacturers, or follow this link for an accessible read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB in short, the only USB standard that can work between non-standard hosts is USB On-The-Go ( http://www.usb.org/developers/onthego/ ) It's a relatively new standard that eliminated the need of a PC and can interface devices between themselves.
