Took a chance and bought a non-working Gauntlet Legends showcase for the store yesterday for $300. (I'll post pics when it's working the cab is in perfect condition minus the control panel overlay.) I found a spare power supply for it, and the monitor is perfect after some tweaking and but the hard drive is junk (I don't know how, but someone ripped the power connector off of it...). Well I have a spare hard drive and was going to throw Gauntlet Legends 1.6 on, but then I got to reading about the boot ROM and such. I popped the boot EEPROM into my programmer and it matched an older version of Gauntlet Legends. My question is about the security chip that has to be programmed when changing games. Does this need to be reprogrammed since it's still Gauntlet Legends? Also on a side question is it really worth it to buy a CF card and adapter for these? After we get this fixed it likely won't be moving for a long time. I could see if I were looking to sell or would be leasing it, but I think this will be very nice to stay in the store for quite a while. Edit - Found this digging around on the KLOV forums, and leads me to believe I don't need to do anything with the security chip. http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=57098 Since I ended up finding my answer on my own I guess can either discuss the second minor question or lock it.
I was sending one to someone earlier. Still need to clean it up real nice, but even just for coming in it looks amazing considering it was still used up until 8 months ago. Also here's what I was talking about with the hard drive. I don't know what kind of strength it takes to do this, but I don't want to fight the guy lol. I'll post some glamor shots hopefully tomorrow night if it's working!
If it is still Gauntlet Legends, then you don't need to change the security PIC. For the HDD, I'd recommend moving to a CF solution as it is more reliable and loads faster.
