What exactly is the main use of them? I know they are a type of bypass on the PS2, but for what exactly? Can I play import games using a swap disc?

Yes, you can use them for imports and "backups", and for some homebrew applications like SnesStation.

There are several varieties of swap discs, though. The ones I use are Swap Magic 3.6, and those are the uses I have them for.

pretty much any import or back up will work flawlessly. However it does not work properly with dual layer games or games that are close the max space a

dvd can handle(past 4.5) theres a trick i think to get around. I have one and its been worht the investment, allowed me to play treasure box collection. It's

also much safer to use then a mod chip if you go the flip top cover route like I have.

if you have a slimPSTwo, you can simply pay for overpriced plastic tabs that can fool the PSTwo into thinking the lid is closed making the swap much easier.

Actually, if you check out some of the modchip sites, you can get the swap discs and the tabs as a combo.

Basically, there are a few imports I want to pick up (Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, Final Fantasy X, etc). Few questions, though:

-Do they work with Playstation games as well?
    -I have a slim PS2. Which boot discs/tabs should I get?
-MGS2 and 3 come pretty close to filling up the disc. Would it be OK?

I modded my Slim PS2 myself by opening it up and glueing certain parts in place such as the disc break and the two lid buttons.

3Tabs total. The swap disks you find will also work with PSX games.

Last I checked, you need a seperate swapping disc for original PSX discs. I use a GameShark Lite CD. There are others such as PSEXChange2.

Sorry for bumping a fairly old topic, but I'd like to note that the plastic "switch" that comes with a few of these kits is garbage. Mine broke the night I got it, so I generally end up taping the front sensor down.

How exactly does that work? Mind you, I have little knowledge about Swap discs, which is why I am asking.

it involves stripping some of the plastic on the slim pstwo, and installing these tabs that are cheap and flimsy. However they now have a replacemtn top that is similar to the regular ps2 flip top, so its still feasable option on either ps2 model.
