i have a 20GB disc that is clearly too small for installing games on it; if i upgrade to a new 120gb one, what will happen to my account, downloaded games and game saves? is there an online service from microsoft that will host your saves so that you can update frely and then redownload your saves? thanks, karsten
Yeah, the cable is the key part, that's the only way to transfer the actual data directly to the new drive. With saved games, you can just use a memory card to transfer... (right?) and I'd ASSUME that Microsoft is smart enough to let you re-download games that you purchased if you "delete" them (or put your profile on another drive)... can anyone confirm this?
You need the transfer cable+software that comes with it to transfer everything to a new hard drive. The software re-certifies your downloaded games. without your basicly screwed and have to follow an overly complicated online thing on their website somewhere that takes forever. Also the transfer kit is included with the 120 gig hard drive, not with the 60 gig drive as the 60 gig drive is sold as an expantion for people who have an arcade unit without hard-drive
it's not like you couldn't get one. People sell them on eBay a the time disregarding Microsoft's recommendation to throw them away. Also you could dump the games/saves with xplorer360 and a Sata->Usb adapter or official transfer cable.
Did they update the software? I had used this once before when the elites first came out and while it did copy everything over, it did not re-certifiy my downloaded games. I still needed to be signed into Live to use them. This was before they had the web service.
SilverBolt is incorrect. The transfer software *DOES NOT* resign your downloaded games. It never has and never will. If you are moving the games from one drive to another, you don't need to resign them so long as you're still using the drive on the same console. It is only when you switch consoles that you need to resign. Switching drives doesn't matter. -hl718
Shows me that i shouldn't listnen to the M$ 360 helpdesk then. I was told that the software needed to re-certify all my downloaded content to link the new drive to my old 360 and that way i wouldn't have to use their online service.
