Just a curiosity question..... It seemed back with xbox1, Gamecube and PS2 everybody crazed over dev items. I remember Alpha 1s and 2's would have people fighting over them. With the new systems especially 360 there seems to be less interest. Anybody have ideas why?
It's supply and demand. I have 2 360 dev units and have actually passed on at least 4-5 others I have seen come my way. Other systems are a bit harder. Last gen hardware was similar, you saw xbox dev units around, but not too many gamecube or ps2 units... well, some ps2 units. Also, remember, the xbox 360 has been out for a year longer than ps3 & wii. So there are more of them out there that companies are done with their development cycle and offices cleaned out so to speak. IMO Jeff.
it just seems the demand for the new gens is not as great. I just remember xbox 1 dev systems being more sought after for years in comparison to the 360. Even when the market was saturated the xbox1s were still in demand.
Are more dev systems making their way into enthusiast hands, earlier than before? I was stunned at how quickly after launch that a PS3 debug appeared here. It might also be that dev systems are becoming less 'exclusive' in folks minds, now that earlier generation hardware has become more readily available. Instead of immediately fighting to the death, folks may be more inclined to wait for availabilty to increase/prices to drop. I'd love to get my hands on the current gen dev kit, but it's still a bit pricey for me.
