Hello, I have a PSP 3001, and the DC-In port no longer works. I have identified where the problem is, but for now I just have to charge it through USB. As any PSP owner knows, charging through USB takes a lifetime. I was wondering if I took a 5v AC adapter, like the one that would usually plug into it's DC-in port, cut off the end, and replaced it with a Mini-USB, if it would charge at the normal speed. So here's a "diagram": 5v-->miniUSB
I'm not sure if i understand you. You think that replacing USB cable with original or other 5v PSU with miniUSB connector will make it charge faster through PSP USB port? In that case don't waste your time, it won't change anything. You'll have to repair original DC socket (or its circuit, dunno what's broken in your PSP).
2A will charge a battery quite a bit faster than 500mA. But I question if the PSP's USB port can even handle 2A of current. It may have a regulation circuit that limits the incoming current, or it may fry. Usually there is a charging regulation circuit inside the device. The external power source is just a power source, while the charging circuit determines how much current and voltage is drawn from the power source. The safer option is just to fix the DC port.
It won't fry anything. USB port will just take that 500mA. But it won't charge faster either. So it will be a waste of time and connector. So, yeah, it's better just to fix that DC input. Or live with slow charging.
