Is it me, or is the sound a bit off? Maybe its just because the last time I played it was the GBA version, but it sounds a bit different in some spots (Granted, that may just be because of the emulation).

On a somewhat related note, I really wish Nintendo would allow us to change the controls on Virtual Console games. Playing SMW with a Gamecube controller isn't very fun (The run button is on y instead of B, A is the twist jump, and b is just jumping. Horrible layout).

I think the more the VC progresses the more pist off people are getting over the lack of custom controll mapping.

I even have this issue with Mario Kart 64 which face buttons works ok on the VC Classic controller but analog sucks. Yet on the cube controller the analog and face buttons are great but the trigger buttons are a freaking joke (z trigger should not be mapped to left trigger, it should be Z trigger still).

i ll disagree on the mariokart point. On hombrewed (not quite, since the emulator was Zelda's to start with) Mariokart 64 on the GC it was ackward to reach the Z and powerslide at the same time (everyone I know is known to powerslide with the right trigger - or it might be that it's the way i first showed them how to)

I think nintendo wants you to buy their new controller. I for one dislike it. It lacks "grips" and is way too light. Also, I fail to see the purpose of analogue shoulder buttons, since no emulated games use this feature. Perhaps later Wii games might use the controller in this capacity - which makes me wonder why and if Midway have included Classic Controller compatibility in their upcoming MK game (too bad it lacks online though)

Jumping is still on the Right trigger. Yet to fire your weppons it's been mapped to the left trigger insted of the z-button. It gets irritating having to push the gcn trigger buttons all the way in just to register the attack. I also do find it anoying for jumping as well since it feels like you have a delay issue because of the crapy triggers on the gcn controller.

I havn't bought SMW yet but both NES games SMB and Zelda sounds wrong when playing so it wouldn't supprise me if the sounds is wrong on SMW.

I noticed that when playing LttP. Alot of the sound effects (jars breaking and bombs exploding) seem either really quiet or nonexistant.

Most SNES emulators don't accurately emulate the sound chip. Those that do have been around a very long time. It would not be surprising to find out VC's SNES emulator has very crappy sound emulation. And remember the SNEs emulators we can enjoy on PC like SNES9X and ZSNES have been around for years and years being finely tuned. Who knows how fast they had to throw together their own crappy emulators. If they could have gotten away with it they should have ripped off SNES9X.

Hang on a sec. Barcode if I understood your first post there, it would mean theres a 64 emulator for the gamecube? From the way I understood your post someone cracked the zelda OOT emulator used in the gamecube version and made it run other commercial games on the cube? Is that correct, if so that would be awsome. I have stacks and stacks of 64 games, but on gamenight I rarely break them out due to my gaming buddys being so rough on controllers and sticks on the 64 are not made to go the distance lol.

Anyway please correct me if im wrong.

I have F-Zero, Castlevania 4 and R-TYPE III all on the Virtual Console. All sound and look perfect ! A few of the Mega Drive stuff I've downloaded all look and sound perfect too. I couldn't say for the PC Engine stuff since I never owned the original. The thing I'm thinking is I bet an awful lot of you played the SFC / SNES on a crappy mono TV but now you have the Wii set up with nice surround sound. If this is the case then things are going to sound different. Me? I've always had my consoles set up via an amp.

Yeap, the emu has been hacked long time ago. I ve played around with it. I played Mariokart64 on the GC instead of DoubleDash when I had friends over.

it also supports, to my knowledge, Super Mario 64, and StarFox 64.

I can't say, there are so many versions of both emulators. However TRAC who still works on SNEeSe the SNES emulator has very accurate sound emulation even suppotring troublesome games that other emulators use hacks to make them work properly.

Yakumo, I play my Super Famicom with a real sound system too. However I can't really say anything about the Wii's VC emulators other than what I've heard from others as I don't own a Wii at the moment. However it really wouldn't surprise me that the emulation is subpar.

To be honest with the VC games I have they all sound accurate to me (NES: Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros; SNES: Zelda III; N64: Mario 64).

The Wii is piped into my surround system and everything seems spot on....though I will admit iv'e only been playing these games via emulation for a number of years, so it's possible they all sound as 'subpar' but i'm used to it.

The sound on SMW on the vc is perfect, i havent noticed any difference between that & the SFC original.

However you say the last version of smw you played was the gba version & that does sound different to the original.

I thought that too, but no it seems to be certain games. I play mine on the TV that I've played my actual SNES on. Definate sound problem. If it is the emulator I hope they fix it with a firmware update.

Hmm, maybe it's your Wii? They do sound perfect to me. I even did a test by running the real cartridge via the virtual console version. Did you ever update your Wii for the weather or news channles? Maybe that could help. Nintendo might slide in a Virtual Console update as well without telling you.
