First of all, which brand is it? I remember seeing a 3rd party brand at circuit city the other day for about $60, $30 more then Nintendo's component cables bought online. Secondly, does it clean up the jaggies while in wide screen in 480p? I remember having some problems with jaggies when I played the wii version of TP on my widescreen.
It does a pretty good job, but I prefer playing it on a CRT screen. The scaler of my plasma -Panasonic 42PV60- does a great job (especially on SDTV/DVDs), but still, it doesn't look great. The "jaggies" are gone though. I have both N's and 3rd party cables. Surprisingly, the 3rd party cables are ticker and have a quite more solid feeling.
I have both the $9.99 bargain component cable from play-asia and the expensive official nintendo one and i must say i can hardly see any difference between the both although i of course do prefer the ninetndo one. But for $9.99 the one at play-asia is a god damned steal. Tv is a Samsung 23" HD LCD tv, same one as on the 360 demo stands and it really does take good care in removing those "jaggies"
Yeah, I couldn't find any Wii cables, but I did find a dual PS2/Xbox component cable by Mad Catz. Works pretty well once I lower the sharpness on my widescreen.
I have the nintendo brand component cables and I still see the jaggy lines on both tv sets I have 52" LCD HDTV RCA & 42" Plasma EDTV Sylvania. So I think it more depends on the tv and not the cables.
Mine is a 32 inch widescreen HDTV. Although I still see jaggies with my PS2 (Depending on the game), the Xbox doesn't have that problem too much.
Diverting away a little from the thread header There has to be a certain size where it doesn`t make a huge difference Like I would love a 52in LCD, but with the pixel sizes etc is there a size where the limit has been reached? I hope someone gets what I mean IE pixels 1720x1080 on a 36in screen, surely would look better than 1720x1080 on a 52in screen.........as the pixels must only be a certain size, so streching to a bigger screen would effect them.
I get what your saying, although 1080p on a 36 isnt very noticable at more than a few feet, ie you wont be able to decern much of a difference compared to 720p However at a size of around 50, and definetly at 60, 1080p will look decidedly better than 720p, even when sitting ~10ft away. I'd say with a 1080p 52in LCD you'd be fine at a normal viewing distance and be unable to discern individual pixels. Really the resolution is affected by the viewing distance. After all you couldnt tell the difference between 480p and 2560p on a 10in screen from 30ft away:dance: PS, it's 1920x1080, not 1720x1080
Well, considering that PS2 lacks anti-aliasing all together (for - supposevely- more clear graphics - although they re quite washed-up due to limited VRAM in earlier and budget games) it's natural. The 360 is FSAA king, and the Wii..well , as good and as bad as the GC - meaning that the console takes a hit depending on how much FSAA is desired. I really liked the option in Super Smash Bros. Melee for 'deflicker', it got around FSAA in a nice cheating way! (looked shit in 480i, but worked flawlessly in 480p)
Yeah, Final Fantasy XII has a flicker option that helps (Although games like MGS3 have a few visual oddities). Distance also plays a roll: If I sit up in bed while playing it, then I can see the chunkiness of it, while laying back in bed about 3-5 feet away makes it look fine.
