Hello, I am new to this forum and have 3 questions :icon_bigg How big of a hard drive does the xbox debug kit have? What are the advantages and disadvantages of going with a "genuine" xbox debug kit rather than making your own? And what is the advantage of having 128 RAM, would that just be a performance advantage? I hope these aren't noobie questions lol Thanks:020:
1. It will have a 8-10GB HDD 2. You have to use a modchip or a bios loader (softmod) for a retail motherboard. Just more shit to buy. I think that it may have a different version processor, but I'm not totaly sure. I know that some dev kits also have a different MCPX. 3. Debug kits come with extra ram so they can use xbox neighborhood while testing and playing games. You can also do take video faster while in game using the offical tools and lots of other things that I did not mention. It's eaiser to just buy an offical debug kit if you ask me. It's not too hard if you have a modchip and a motherboard with the extra ram.
Thanks for the reply. 1. Do you think a hard drive upgrade is nessesary on a offical debug kit 2. What's MCPX? 3. 4. Is ebay a good place to buy the "offical" debug kits? 5. What does loose mean when they are talking about "official" debug kits? 6. What are things to look out for when buying a Official debug kit I hope that's not too many questions lol (btw i'm new to the whole xbox development scene) thanks
1. No 2. Handles communitcation from cpu/gpu to board (Very simplified explaination) 3. ? 4. Yes, just follow normal ebay advice 5. Loose means console (maybe cables) only, no box or docs (complete) 6. Sealed or not? If not, they may have swapped out motherboard with a retail one. Make sure there is no DVD logo on bezel by "Debug Kit" text. Not all kits are green and say debug kit, if so check pictures of bottom/ ask seller for photos.
You got PM Also Raptors are useless except as an extra IDE port without an actual XDK. The raptors are used to do dvd emulation for optimizing the layout of files on a actual game disc.
Not the GPU actually... Basically, the Xbox chipset is set up like this: CPU <- 64-bit/133MHz bus -> GPUx (?) <- HyperTransport -> MCPx Since the Xbox is basically a PC, the GPUx is the graphics chip and northbridge. The MCPx is the southbridge of the board and handles the IDE, network port, RTC, USB, etc.
Sorry to bump this way old thread. Am interested in a Debug unit, but WHY would this which is mentioned above be of any importance? EDIT: Also, what would a recommended price be for a said unit in perfect condition, fully packed? (Just to get an idea, because I've seen them go loose for very cheap some years ago...) Feel free to PM me.
