Ok, I downloaded a Sega CD game from Underdogs. The game is silpheed, a pretty good shooter. Now I was wondering if I can just put the game on a CDR and put it in the system. Will the game load or is there some sort of security feature that won't let me? I just want to know for sure if the JVC X'Eye system I bought DOES work. I also plan on buying a legit copy of silpheed since they go for cheap on ebay now.

It'll work aslong as it is the right region....MCD has no copy protect because CD writers were so expensive back then....or at least thats what I think ^_^

Exactly, no media security. You'll need to burn the game correctly however. Track 01 is mode 1/2352, other tracks CDDA/2352. If you start doing the CD image thing, PLEASE don't spread on mp3 rips, they're an archiver's black plague.

Well right now I'm just burning them all onto the CD, hopefully it will work right off the bat, if not then I guess I can wait until I buy a Sega CD game.

What do you mean burning them onto CD? You're burning the files onto a single data track?

I hate all of you bastards and your broadband as well! ;-)

I would download the game (I have my methods), but the Underdogs has some (understandable) bandwidth issues. 20kbps on a T1 is unacceptable, or at least would be for any other site. I'll just get it sometime next week through a download manager.

Yet another game that's going on the Christmas list to piss off the parents. I'm not allowed to order things off the internet, so I'm getting them to do it! There's not a single thing on my list that is available around here! Take that, Santa! :smt082

Well ive had plenty of experiance with burning sega cd, and you must put the game and audio tracks in the same folder, then you must make sure the tracks are in wav format(and order such as track 2, track 3, etc) and make a cue file, if you dont know how to make one use the sega cue maker that availibe at sega xtremes website, then burn the cue with nero or cdrwin. After its done burning enjoy, also if it works on the emu with a us bios then the game will work as it is set for us, hope that helps. If you have any further questions just let me know.

I must say Silpheed is one SWEET shooter. I'm especially in love with stage 2, the asteroid field. It's incredible how they were able to stream the video as they did (at least I think its video, I don't think MCD can render that many polygons with that high framerate). I got my copy of Silpheed for 2 bucks at a garage sale last year, damn close to mint too. Its fairly common and is probably going for sale again next year. If anyone wants I can keep a look out for ya. Also for assistance in burning an ISO have a look at sega cue maker. It can help get soem things working that aren't in SegaXtremes DB.

I've only played the original so far. I'm so proud of owning that one. The only thing missing is the box. I think we bought it back in '91/'92... It's for the PC, by the way.

There was a PC version of Silpheed? That sounds so sweet. Granted I can always use fusion or Gens, it would be interesting to compare the two. Can you provide any shots of it?

The first Silpheed is available on the Underdogs (www.the-underdogs.org). 666kb, although I'm not sure why it's that big... The game is nothing to look at, but it's great fun :smt023 .

That FM7 Silpheed looks so rad, I could never get the emulator to work if I remember, was trying to play the Ulysees 31 game on it.

Despite what some peeps say, Silpheed on PS2 is a cool game, def some of my fave FMV scenes.

Thats the crappy version of silpheed. Trust me the Sega CD one is much better since it uses FMV to enhance the gameplay. Underdogs have the Sega CD, you might have to look harder, they might have taken it down too.

    Huh?
Was it 5.25" FD version or 3.5" FD version?
I've been trying to put together my FM-NEW7 collection again and it looks like very long and hard road since it's not only bl**dy hard to find even in Japan but also very expensive too... :(

    cheers

    cheers

Correction: It's the old version of Silpheed :smt023 . The PC version was handled in America by Sierra. The Sega CD version was released years later. It is still, by the way, at the Underdogs. I'll be downloading the Sega CD version next day my supervisor is out of work ;).

Wasn't it on some LaserDisc game format first? IMDB has a page on it, but all it says is it was out in 1986, directed by Takeshi Miyaji and was a video game.

I'm not sure about the exact history of the game. I know of three versions of Silpheed: The American PC version (Sierra), the Sega/Mega CD version (Sega), and the PS2 version (dunno who did this one).

Edit: Bronze Citizen! I'm getting there! w00t! :-D

ps2 version was done by tresure, however many feel it was not as good as the sega/mega cd version.
