I've always been curious about the rough translation with the beginning text, and not the hackjob that happened in the PAL version. Does anyone have a rough translation of what the text in the Japanese version is?
Google cache of a translation here: http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cach...lay.cgi?base.html+zero+wing+translation&hl=en (the site itself is down).
You mean the infamous line in the U.S. version? One of the FAQS at Gamefaqs stated that they really hired a japanese guy that was still learning English to translate the game or something.
Oh man, I love Zero Wing My yearbook quote was "All your base are belong to us!", lol. I am such a dork ¬_¬
You're right, no US version was released, although there may have been arcade cabs kicking around. Unlikely as it is, I did own the game before the whole "all your base" thing kicked off, I remember liking the object grabbing gameplay thing when I first played it. Later I completed it many times over on an emulator savestate, since it loops back to the start when you complete it and adds to the stage number and I wanted to see what came after 9 (it showed "a" if anyone's interested - I wasn't about to to complete it 26 times more). As far as random webtrends go, that was quite a big one...
Shit, I only read this once, like 6 months ago. Here we go, every thing you should know about this game, and how it got its status. http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis/file/zero_wing.txt It took people 9 years to notice it, though. WARNING stileproject.com Dont go to this link in the FAQ, unless you like pr0n.
