Seems that iwata is saying that there's to be no more versions of gba. I only wonder how long until there in no GBA and only DS. I assume they will phase out micro soon, and leave only the GBA as the low end console, but for how long?
Well... I really don't know how much smaller they could have made the GBA. They could make it bigger... the GBA Macro or something... But at least we can still look forward to FFV and FFVI on the good ole' GBA!
the Micro let me down when it didn't support clasic GB/GCA games. There's the SP-backlight out there i know, but I wanted a micro with the functionality of the SP backlight. I hate the clicky buttons (that includes the DS)
I'm remembering the Three Pillars speech. GBA is going to be around software-wise for a long time. It'll be the PSX of the handheld market. Lots of bargain and independent games!
The three-pillars thing was just a back-up plan in case the DS was a flop. They'd just release the "next gameboy". Knowing nintendo, they milk their consoles till blood comes out of their tits. On a side-note, the evolution to the next gameboy has to be (in the spirit so far) compatible with the DS, so it is safe to assume that the DS and the next gameboy will merge, with hopefully current console graphic capabilities (which is wishful thinking. They'd just throw the second touchscreen on top and perhaps make a multi-point touchscreen this time around, and adding some motion sensor built-in)
I just had the image of some Voltron-like monstrocity where you could play different types of games on each handheld individually, but to play certain games you had to connect them all together... :noooo:
Steel Battalion controller with touch screens!!!! And it comes with a harness, so you can wear the portable console around your waste. The sad thing is... most of us would probably buy it if the price was right...
Well I would like to say something on the soft side about this issue, but since ninty abused of their position as handheld market leader with the GBA I can only say: About freaking time! Thx man! now I cant look at titties without that picture in my mind:crying: About the next ninty portable, well I dont know if they would keep the touchscreen. There's always the possibity that PSP starts to catch up with gamers who want graphics over control, thus taking a shere of DS's market. So ninty may launch a GBA2 that's nothing but a counter-PSP device, a traditional handheld with hi-res screen and high quality graphics. Then the DS2 would be even more powerfull and play both DS and GBA2 games:nod:
I hope previous GameBoy games will remain compatible in the next GameBoy that's made. It would be nice to think all GB games since the first GB system would be compatible. widescreen and mini cd compatibility would be nice additions *Concura
That would be a lot of freakin' portables. Though I don't think we have anything to worry about... I highly doubt the PSP is going to present the DS with a challenge in the near future.
So, you want basically everything, in a tiny handheld. That's asking a bit much. Widescreen and mini cd...that's shear maddness trying to stick cartridge and mini cd (which btw if you mean UMD though I'm unsure) in a handheld. Also if you are talking about UMD it's a Sony format, something which Nintendo would avoid, espcially since it's largely a failure as a format. Nice to see the GBA finally to some extent discontinued.
You just know they had a GBA 2 designed in case ds flopped... too bad we'll never know what it looked like.
Well any rumours about the GameBoy Evolution were started by the companies interviews, as they assured that the third pillar approach was such that the next GameBoy "will be announced in 2006" or something along those lines. If nintendo chose to go with optical media (Which I m sure the GBE had at some point, but after seeing what happened to Sony, they might just have reconsidered) the GB stuff could plug into the proprietary memory-card slot, that can also accept GB/GBC/GBA stuff.
I doubt that, but what about the proto PSP? that one that was designed around the year 2000 and used memory sticks? I heard it was almost completed, we could get it:dance:
I doubt any prototypes will ever leak out of Nintendo hardware-wise. Have any ever been to date? Think of all the machines that must have been developed just-in-case but were never taken advantage of. Some kind of Gamecube portable was rumoured, but I don't see how they could put the components into something small enough to be portable. Nintendo suffer from the same problem as Microsoft with the XBox, but to a lesser extent. The CPU and GPU are outsourced and are made by a third party, so they can't be condensed in the same way the PSTwo chipset was (which presumably led to the PSP chipset).
That was all fanboy hype, but even that, is not impossible. G4s can be scaled down a lot, and remember: the GC didnt had the velocity engine... Anyway, what about the 1st PSP? does anyone remember that one?
