Apparently the NUON plays cartrages too...

Yeah, i don't think this is the best site to use as a reference... Never heard of R-Type for the 3DO and considering how well it did with sprites i would highly doubt it was in development.

I don't believe R-Type was ever made for 3DO - not even an unreleased prototype. I never even heard of a rumor about R-Type on 3DO.

many years ago, in 1989-1990, there *were* rumors of R-Type 2 being made for the MD-Genesis. but nothing came of it - I'm sure NEC & Hudsonsoft wanted
R-Type to remain exclusive to P.C.-Engine / TurboGrafx16 ....although R-Type 2 was never made for NEC consoles
(R-Type 2 on P.C. Engine is the 2nd half of the first R-Type)

there was supposedly an R-Type for the Fujitsu FM Towns - there was a picture in EGM Number 4 - but it turns out it was probably a picture of the X68000 version.

    Okay, thanks guys.

As I thought, it must be fake.

  7. Even though it's referred to as R-Type II, I think the general intent was for the game to be 'R-Type part II' or something similar The PC Engine release of R-Type was a fairly odd affair - there were two Hucards released, each containing four levels from the full arcade game. The Hucard billed as 'R-Type I' contained levels 1-4, and 'R-Type II' contained levels 5-8. Later, a CD version was released that featured animated intros, a remixed (and inferior) soundtrack, and the full game in its completed form.

The US Turbografx release of R-Type encompasses the full game, however.

The true R-Type 2 never had an individual home release as far as I know, appearing only in the Playstation R-Types collection and (in scaled-down form) on the Gameboy Color R-Type DX.

It would be neat to hear of a 3DO R-Type port, though - might actually make that scary box worth getting.
