This has to be one of my favourite in the R-type series, unfortunately I never got a chance to bash away at an original arcade(because it was a Japanese only arcade release?) and played it on emulation only a couple of times.Just out of interest was it ever announced for any home console at any point? The arcade showed up around 92 I think so I'm quite sure either the Snes or Megadrive could have easily handled a scaled down port of it.Any info on this? :smt017 Staying with shoot-em up's,how much would I expect to pay for a Salamander Deluxe PSX comp these days, another Japanese only release, right?I really just want it for the awesome Salamander 2. :)

I bought the Saturn Salamanda Deluxe set for 1800 yen so I'd expect the PSX version to be cheaper. Shooters on the saturn always cost more :smt009

I don't think R-Type Leo was ported to any console but it could well have been ported to Japanese PCs. This site http://www.guajara.com/wiki/ja/wikipedia/r/r_/r_type.html on the other hand seems to thing it was an arcade only release.

    TRANSLATION
    1987/07 R-TYPE (アーケード) ARCADE
    1989/12 R-TYPE II (アーケード) ARCADE
    1992/12 R-TYPE LEO (アーケード) ARCADE
1993/12 R-TYPE III (スーパーファミコン) SUPER FAMICOM (SNES)
    1998/11 R-TYPE ⊿ (プレイステーション) PLAYSTATION
    2003/07 R-TYPE FINAL (プレイステーション2) PLAYSTATION 2

They missed Super R-TYPE for the Super Famicom though which was even released in the UK and US. So there possibly could be a home version of LEO.

Thanks a lot for the info Yakumo, yeah it's looking increasingly likely it was arcade only.A shame.I'm assuming that the PSX "Rtype" on that list is actually "R-types" which is 1 and 2 on one disc. They also missed "R-type delta" for the PSX but it wasn't a great entry to the family anyway IMO. :)

Well, R-type delta actually is in that list, the triangle is the "delta" character.

Hehe,my mistake.I don't have a japanese character set installed in my browser so there is no triangle for me,all I can see are little squares so it just looks like "R-type" then more squares.I admit I wouldn't have known it meant delta even if I could see it. :Hangman: :smt043
