Hi Everyone, As I know, R-Type for the PCE was distributed on two cards for the Japanese market. One containing the first 4 stages and the other containing the rest. Was the price of each card cheaper to make up for the spliting of the game, or did they charge full price for both cards (rip off)? As I know, they were able to get all the stages in one card for the US release, so was that card twise as expensive as the Japanese editions, or were the Japanese gamers just screwed in to paying full price for both cards?
R-Type US - $69.99 R-TYPE I - ¥4900 R-Type II - ¥4900 R-Type Complete CD - ¥7500 I don't know what the xchange rates at the time where, but yeah looks like it was cheaper in the US.
Here's something that may prove a bit useful: http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/data/EXJPUS.txt 4900 yen came to about $38.55 in 1988.
